Today, Emory University Hospital Midtown and Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University plan to break ground on a 17-story building at Peachtree Street and Linden Avenue.
"We don't get to build something this iconic on the most iconic street in Atlanta very often," said Daniel Owens, CEO of Emory University Hospital Midtown, adding it's the biggest expansion to the Midtown campus since 2002. "It's a huge opportunity for us to continue to boost the community."
Called Winship at Midtown, the nearly $500 million building will consolidate cancer services and improve a patient's experience. So at the new center, the doctors and staff would come to the patient, reducing the amount of roaming around for those who may be quite sick and exhausted.
It's expected to welcome its first patients in 2023.
The highrise itself looks a lot better than it did in the early renderings. Meh to the skybridge, but I understand they'll probably need to wheelchair patients from the main hospital to the cancer center.
It’s unfortunate the city, Waffle House, and the developer are not working together to extend Ethel St. The rendering has a crosswalk, but this area will really need a traffic signal to get people safely across the street. The street should connect all the way westbound to Brady.
187 unit, 500+ bed student housing on Northside Dr:
The new SCAD Tower is ok. The first tower's rendering was underwhelming but the tower turned out fine. I'll retain hope that it'll be the same case here.
They're currently installing the crane for the student housing tower on Spring Street next door to the Norfolk Southern Headquarters. That's five or six active cranes now within that block.
On the SCAD dorm, that seems to be the architectural style of the campus. The individual elements may look dull, especially in renderings, but somehow it works. I find it to be really visually appealing.

Would love if someone could post a pick with new crane...
SCAD presented at the November 2019 meeting of the Midtown Development Review Committee (DRC) a new mixed-use project on Spring Street as part of ongoing campus expansion plans in the north end of Midtown. The site is located on the west side of Spring Street immediately south of the Buford Spring-Connector. The program will include a 20-story residential building with accommodations for 1,000 students, a dining hall, 700-seat auditorium, academic space (35,000 SF) and campus store (5,500 SF). An eight-level parking deck with 232 spaces has access from Spring Street.
The DRC’s feedback focused on the issue of vehicular access and the lack of support for two curb cuts proposed along Spring Street (one for the parking deck, and the other for service vehicles). Multiple curb cuts in this location are not permitted by code and would undermine the safety and functionality of the protected bike-lane that will be installed on Spring Street in the future. The DRC requested a single point of access for vehicles and a more welcoming pedestrian experience along the Spring Street frontage. The site is a high profile corner in close proximity to other arts and cultural anchor institutions and it presents a unique opportunity to strengthen the connection between SCAD and the community. This could be accomplished by providing public access from the sidewalk to the campus store and box-office. The committee also recommended improvements to the parking deck screening and lighting on the south façade, which directly impact the adjacent property owner. The applicant is working to address the issues raised by the DRC.
