Fantastic thread! Thanks so much, Demis. The vintage photographs you've included really help to appreciate these buildings, especially the 'House of Industry'. They give a sense of the really heroic conditions under which they were built: breathtaking to see some of the most modern and revolutionary architecture of its time being triumphantly raised with shovels and horse-carts and bare hands! And also show how different the final product was, in many cases, from what the architects had originally projected.
According to some cursory internet research, it seems the architects of the House of Industry are Daniil Fridman and Gleb Gluschenko, and Fridman at least was associated with the ARU, or Association of Urbanist Architects, led by Nikolai Ladovsky. Hard to find any further information about them in English.
I'd love to visit Yekaterinburg some day to see these buildings in person… and maybe take up residence in the abandoned water tower.
Meanwhile, thanks again for the photos!
