Dresden, Germany on the rebound

great city. even if the locals refer to the old city rebuilding as "Disney world" since it recreates the pre-bombing grandeur without local population moved in, it is still a gorgeous clash of baroque meets commie blok meets pomo architecture land.

pics from three trips (October and December 2013 and January 2015), inside and outside the city center.

photos include those from the excellent slaughter house five tour

Fantastic - looks like there is enough grit and creativity in that city to avoid it turning into Disneyland.

That monument with the cow says "To the health of our fine city!" (female gender dative), right?

It's been ~15 years since I last did some German... (16 years as well since I last set foot in Germany. Your pics make me want to go again though!)

Extremely nice set of pics and thanks for sharing!!!

Sorry for recycling someone else's recent post but... as a rule of thumb, all the "deep blue" areas of this map will be quite homogeneous with (white, in Europe) natives/locals.

(Actually, having just posted it I realize Dresden is yellow... I had in mind that East Germany outside Berlin was all pretty blue...)

Sweet. I especially like the nighttime scenes with how the light bathes everything.

interesting you say "Disneyland," as that's what the locals sometimes refer to the rebuilt old city as since "there's not enough people living there to make it 24/7 authentic" or something.

Nice pictures. Even the neo-traditional stuff is good.

What did the excavated area used to be?
