hkskyline's 2014 in ROME

After visiting many parts of Europe, including Moscow, Istanbul, Riga, and Bratislava, I have decided it is time to go to Rome. Having heard many stories of pickpockets and street crime, I was a bit nervous at first. Luckily, I survived unscathed, and returned with many photos.

Awesome. One of my favorite cities. I just love the many layers of history that are right there in front of you.

Nice pics! I will visit Rome for 5 days in just a few weeks, and I hope it is as safe as most other European capitals. How many days did you stay?

5 days as well, but did not do any day trips out of the city though. There was enough to fill up the 5 days nicely (4 full days).

Good. Don't plan any daytrips either. There are way too much to do, like you said, and no obvious goals in the vicinity.

After so many churches, it starts to get a bit stale looking at the elaborate decorations and intricate artwork. It is hard to find another city that can beat Rome's churches, except probably Istanbul.

Yuck ... a nasty tourist trap!

Plenty of Asian tourists were around this area shopping for a luxury bag. I would encounter them again at the airport tax refund counters later.

The fountain looks nice and the water contrasts well with the whiteness, but it was too crowded and I was lucky to have arrived before they turned the tap off for renovations.

Very good photos, as I have told before. As you know I was in Rome recently. Rome was much more beautiful then I was expected. I was waiting for a long time to visit Rome, after Istanbul, Hong Kong, London, Berlin, Brussels etc because I thought it should be a tourist trap, a dusty museum...but it is really much alive and if you go outside the tourist areas (which we did too less unforutnately) you find there are not only tourists in Rome (it felt like 60% was Americans in the historic part).

And it felt a lot safer then most cities here in Sweden, that's for sure (except for the crazy traffic of course)!

Head uphill in Trastevere for some beautiful views of Rome's skyline. The climb up isn't tough and the best part is the view is free.

The Vatican isn't far away downhill.
