Any Updated renderings with this article or are the current renderings the final design?

That is awesome news!!!

I've only been back to Austin once in the last 10 years, but it was for a convention. So not only will this hotel be an amazing addition to the skyline, but it should allow for a lot more (and better) conventions to take place.

I really hope I get the chance to move back because what's been going on lately is spectacular, but this particular project is the one I've been looking forward to the most (of the ones that were most likely to actually be built).

And yes, let's try to find out if anything about the building's height or design has been changed from what we know.

The building elevations were posted on page 12 of this thread.

I'll send an email to Gensler on Monday to my contact to see if anything has changed, but those building elevations show it at 691 feet to the spire and 572 feet to the roof. Those plans were filed with the City in mid May, so I doubt anything has changed since then.

Since I am too cheap (or pissed off about having to subscribe to a mediocre rag like the Statesman) to get a paid subscription, could somebody either copy and paste the story about the Fairmont or provide details. Did the story specify whether financing has been secured and did it name a lender?

So far, I think everyone on SSP is too cheap to pay for a subscription.

I took the plunge and signed up for the Statesman's e-edition and the mystatesman.com premium content. The Fairmont article said that Douglas Manchester did not provide any updates about the financing. Which I infer to mean that they are still working on it.

You know with the drama that is going on with White Lodging and the city, I wouldn't be surprised if they get the upper hand with any possible incentives. You know they must be following the situation very closely and could take advantage of it.

I was reading about that dispute in the Chronicle the other day. You know, I feel for the workers. They shouldn't have to get shafted just because Rudy Garza is a corrupt fool. The city hired him, so it's their mistake. The city should pay the difference in their wages. Or maybe the city and White Lodging should split the difference. Or maybe it should all come out of Rudy Garza's pocket. That would be awesome.

In today's always accurate AAS, they stated the Fairmont would be the 2nd tallest building in Austin. The rendering did not show a spire. They may not be totally comitted to having one if a helipad is planned for the upper rooftop.

I am wondering if they're still planning the spire or not, although it is still included in the building elevations.

With the spire it would be our tallest. Without it, the building would actually be the 3rd tallest. The Austonian is 683 feet. 360 Condominiums is 581 feet to its spire, and the Fairmount without its spire is 572 feet.

I don't care much about the spire since it is fairly uninspired. While I agree that spire on the 360 should count, the Fairmont's looks tacked on. It will still look like the second tallest building regardless.

Enough about a few feet of height. Just build this thing. I'll have my birthday party there.

Its going to be built but its not just about a few feet to me, its an opportunity to get a second 600 footer into our skyline when everything else going up is 400 - 500 or less. I want more height, and I want it now
