The main booms were in the late 20s, 60s, and then the late 00s

it's approved. However this won't be built for awhile (years) Vornado announced they would renovate the Hotel Pennsylvania which currently stands on the site. This doesnt mean the tower is dead (despite the word of wikipedia)

the original source : http://www.nypost.com/p/news/busines...T5Ocs4QFn5IJ/0

Quote:
Sources tell us that Vornado Realty Trust is putting off constructing its taller challenger to the west at 15 Penn Plaza until market rents reach a point where it’s worthwhile to redevelop the site with an office building.

In the meantime, Vornado is mulling plowing millions of dollars into renovating its Hotel Pennsylvania, a dowdy cash cow that now sits on the future development site at Seventh Avenue between West 32nd and 33rd streets, across from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.

according to the original article, Vornado is playing the waiting game until they believe the market is ripe for a new office tower of this size.

Just curious, what hard drug are you using? "lifetime" is subjective, are you 90 years old? Then yes it will probably be the last supertall you will see in NY in your lifetime.

I did a little more work on an earlier montage I did, and came up with an NYC 2030 version that includes a more built out Hudson Yards and some new ~1,500 to 1,700 foot towers near Grand Central. I'm sure I'm missing many proposals, and even more that wouldn't even be visible from this angle.

^ Very nice work there sbarn. I like The Shard near GCT.

The NY skyline is going to be overwhelming in a couple of years.

Yeah well, we only have the DOB filings so far. And they list a height of 1398'. But DOB papers aren't final, so we have to wait for an official release from the developer to announce the final height.

With the completed new WTC alone, NYC will have a taller skyline than Chicago unless it sees a boom in the future. In fact, I think when the former WTC existed, NYC had the world's tallest skyline.

im just syaing personally i dont think it would look right, maybe ill change my mind because you never know what can happen at the grand central terminal site if we get something 1700 feet or so, and girasole may be 1500 feet, so idk but i love nyc, but i like chicago too and wish it would get a 2000 footer

I just watch a "Bill It Bigger" on the "Science" network. They're building lower, not upper @ GCS (Terminal)...

I would probably disagree with that. Of the top 6 tallest buildings in the country (completed), 4 of them are from Chicago, including the top 2.

When New York completes WTC1 AND 432 Park, then it will probably be neck and neck for height. I would like to see either city get a 2k footer though.

With the skylines the way they are today, I would say a 2k footer would probably look better in Chicago because of how their skyline is laid out. Once WTC1 and 432 park (and maybe one more 1250+ footer) are done however, i'd say a 2k footer would look best towards the edge of Midtown in NYC.

It would look best if they put one towards the edge closest to the WTC complex. Now if NYC completes all four WTC buildings AND gets a 2k footer (along with the rest of the upcoming supertalls), then you all would have a very justifiable argument for best skyline in the world. That would be sweet!
