Something I've thought but hadn't mentioned until now... when I first saw the name Rise, I immediately got an image in my mind's eye of that awkwardly-located fold in the lap of men's trousers when we sit down. It doesn't happen with all pants, but with certain ones it can be embarrassing. Or is it just me? So anyway, Rise is a pseudo-phallic name to me. It's only pseudo-phallic because the building isn't phallic, it's shaped more like that fold in the crotch of a man's pants when he's sitting. In this case, khakis, of that I am certain.

Wow Tech House, I don't know what to say to that. That's an, er, interesting crotch fold analogy. I think this phenomenon occurs only with poverty pants.
But back to the name, I am curious how they came up with it. They could have called it, Sunrise, Rise And Shine, Risen, Riser, Lazerith, All Rise, (from A Few Good Men) which incidentally is what I thought about with that name. Not nearly as imaginative as getting pseudo-phallic crotch fold from the word rise.

Ha! I know what you're talking about. It's because the zipper doesn't lay flat, and instead bows up to make an awkward arch shape. It happens with jeans, too. How in the world did we end up on this conversation? I saw a rabbit today, btw. lol

I think most of us are a little nuts here. But the Austin Forum threads are the best

I like this one too, the style, location, height, don't care for the name. Reminds me of something that's getting more difficult for me to do as I get older.

This place is now called Rise on 8th since there is another new apartment community called Rise. The video on their website is pretty cool:

I like the relative randomness of the windows and balconies. I don't see any consistant or repetitive patterns. This is not a game changing earth shattering building, but it is a rather cool looking one. I like it.

This is by far my favorite new downtown mid-rise. Move in dates are November 1st, so it's almost officially complete.

I wouldn't have known that was the same building from that side if it wasn't posted here.

This building was completed several months ago, but almost immediately took down all of its advertising, stopped answering the phones (people on the project's Facebook site were complaining that they wanted to lease and no one ever got back to them), and even borked its website. Turns out Aspen Heights just sold the property to an undisclosed buyer, which explains the mysterious lull. Presumably the new owners will begin leasing again soon...

Based on info that I don't have links for, they switched from rental to condo then sold the building to a company specializing in vacation property and time shares.

They specialize in student housing, so I'm not surprised they pulled the plug on owning a project which never fit into their property management portfolio.
