The world’s new largest office building is bigger than the Pentagon

The newly-opened Surat Diamond Bourse is billed as a “one-stop destination” for over 65,000 diamond professionals, including cutters, polishers and traders. Featuring a succession of nine rectangular structures spilling out from — and interconnected via — a central “spine,” the sprawling 15-story complex has been built across more than 35 acres of land.

The trading center’s architects say it comprises over 7.1 million square feet of floor space, which would mean it has surpassed the Pentagon as the world’s largest office building.

The structure's spine flares out at each end to funnel breeze through the building.

God, Tokyo buildings are so fucking fat. That doesn't look at all like 1,300 ft.

Morbidly obese tower.

I'm sorry, but this looks like a Cyborg Pirate Transformer sort of cartoon character!

It is hard to comprehend how they will make such wide floors into appealing spaces. I can't help think that the ceilings are going to have to be very high for it

not to feel like a parking garage when standing near the center of the building.

I do like the concept of the garden under the pirate hat.

Tokyo builds cities within towers. Even the average mid-rise buildings have 'storefront' businesses that would be at street level in most other cities... on every level of the building. The buildings may be fat, but they think very vertically there, and it's quite cool to behold.

Tokyo & NYC are in their own league ahead of the rest of the pack in terms of GDP, Los Angeles comes in third, London is a bit down.

Torch Tower, to be Japan’s Tallest Building at 385m

Another model view of this sumo wrestler...

Quote:
The 62-story, 385-meter-high building is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2028, and it will surpass the Abeno Harukasu building in Osaka, which is 300 meters tall, and the Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower in Tokyo’s Minato Ward at 330 meters, which opened in November.
