actually this brand new office bldg in india recently surpassed the pentagon as largest office bldg. its the surat diamond bourse for the diamond business. apparantly 90% of diamonds are cut in surat, so they felt they needed this sucker:

The newly-opened Surat Diamond Bourse is billed as a “one-stop destination” for over 65,000 diamond professionals, including cutters, polishers and traders. Featuring a succession of nine rectangular structures spilling out from — and interconnected via — a central “spine,” the sprawling 15-story complex has been built across more than 35 acres of land.

The trading center’s architects say it comprises over 7.1 million square feet of floor space, which would mean it has surpassed the Pentagon as the world’s largest office building.

I'm sorry, but this looks like a Cyborg Pirate Transformer sort of cartoon character!

It is hard to comprehend how they will make such wide floors into appealing spaces. I can't help think that the ceilings are going to have to be very high for it

not to feel like a parking garage when standing near the center of the building.

I do like the concept of the garden under the pirate hat.

Tokyo builds cities within towers. Even the average mid-rise buildings have 'storefront' businesses that would be at street level in most other cities... on every level of the building. The buildings may be fat, but they think very vertically there, and it's quite cool to behold.
