The plan says: "office and/or hotel". I assume that's what the developer would like to see built at that corner. Hopefully though, the city would try to persuade any potential hotel chain to build a couple blocks south in the core instead.

Look at all that green space they're leaving! They could easily fit 50% more parking spaces in there if they really tried.

Who cares about efficient land use?! ...right?

Land is cheap... might as well waste it

There is some land work being done next to the Dumont Hospital (north side), might be just a parking lot expansion but does anyone know what it is?

There is a request for variance before the Moncton PAC to allow for a new drive-thru to be built just north of the Bank of Commerce Building in the Main Street Superstore parking lot (between the CIBC and the Dollarama, next to that little bridge across Hall's Creek).
http://www.moncton.ca/Assets/Governm...PAC+Agenda.pdf

There is no indication as to what this will be, but judging from the footprint on the planning document, it might be a Tim Horton's.

That god awful green "plywood box" on Botsford has been torn down ...I'd rather a gravel pit than that thing honestly...

City Manager's Downtown Center update

Hi, first timer in this forum, although I've been following it for a few weeks now.

Did anyone hear the latest on the Downtown Center? The city manager gave a verbal update during last night council meeting.

Welcome to the forums! We're the best place to find out the hot rumours on development news and to discuss urban issues on the interweb. I'm looking forward to your contributions.

Alas, I don't have any information about the update given last night, but I doubt we'll find out anything significant until the selected bidders for the project respond to the initial RFP in the fall.

Further to the above, here is a screen capture from the pdf which shows the relationship of this new drive-thru to the existing CIBC in the Main Street Superstore parking lot.

Moncton Memorial

I would like to suggest that the city either plan to place a memorial here (Downing Street redevelopment) or somewhere in a prominent downtown public area for the three fallen RCMP officers.

Below are two memorials for the four fallen officers in Mayerthorpe which I believe are very well done:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayerthorpe_tragedy

Again, my opinion, but I would like to see three porch lights incorporated into the memorial as a symbol of the three lives lost and the outpouring of support across the world.

There is a memorial (of sorts) to fallen firefighters and police officers in Victoria Park if I recall, but it is modest and most people aren't aware of it.

An actual monument (with statues) in the Downing Street redevelopment dedicated to fallen first responders is a fine idea…….

It was in the T&T today that Mayor LeBlanc is already planning a monument as a memorial to the fallen RCMP officers. I hope that it will in fact be a memorial to all fallen first responders. There were the other two officers of the Moncton Police Force who were slain in 1974 and there are also at least 3-4 firefighters who were killed in the line of duty over the years.

The first thoughts are that it should be placed either in Bore View Park, or along the riverfront trail near the Codiac RCMP headquarters building……...

I tried to get in on Friday but it was too packed.
So someone gave me a slice of theirs. It was very yummy. Can't wait to get a whole pizza to myself. Thin crust and overflowing with flavour. Sorry, I forgot to look at their prices. I was too fixated on getting a slice of my pal's pizza. I give it a 9 out of 10.

I was there Friday and had the Stephanie pizza with a Stella beer on tap. I never thought I would ever eat a pizza with goat cheese, caramelized pears and prosciutto, but it was pretty dam tasty! I would definitely have it again, but not before I try everything else on the menu.

Does anyone have any details on when they are going to break ground for the FiveFive condominium project on Queen Street behind city hall? If they plan on being ready late next year, they should be getting their shovels ready right now!

I emailed the developer and received and email back, here is the email.

Good afternoon,

The developer is planning to break the ground in August. The architect is presently working on the plan of the building which it should take a couple months. After the plan being completed, the city has to give their approval before the project can begin.

Have you seen our model suite; call us for a private showing.

Thank you | Merci

It looks like August will be the ground breaking, which makes sense after the slow spring, but its also interesting to see them mention that they are working on the plan of the building, I hope that doesn't mean downsizing...
