Beijing, CN - Dec 2019

Not too long before lockdowns and quarantines were a thing, I had a business trip in Beijing. While only there for a few days I was able to get some photos from around town.

Shown if roughly chronological order: hazy morning CBD, Galaxy SOHO (Zaha Hadid), Tiananmen Square & Forbidden City, random street scenes, Parkview Green (IDA), more street scenes, Chaoyang Park Plaza (MAD), Sanlitun at night.

Amazing set of photos of what looks to be a very beguiling city.

Nice pictures! Beijing looks very beautiful, but I can't ignore all the smog and fog seen in pictures, also constant in most Chinese cities. After corona, the skies look much clearer, sadly enough.

Looking forward to a post-COVID trip back to such an interesting country.

True. The first two days I was there it was very smoggy, as seen in the CBD photos. The air was thick and had an astringent smell. However at the end of my trip the weather changed and the wind from the north east blew the smog away revealing clear skies and sun. I imagine there are a lot of blue skies in China right now, with things operating at low capacity.

If anything this pandemic has shown how change of behavior can have an immediate impact on the environment.

They are trying to rely less on coal heating during the winter and moving towards natural gas. Let's see if the blue sky becomes more common in coming years.

Yes, let's hope the use of natural gas will improve the air quality a lot. I still haven't been in Shanghai and Beijing and many other cities, hope to go there in the near, post-corona, future.

I like the edgy art -that's obviously a reference to the banning of Pooh bear images in the media
