Smile NEW YORK | Harlem Wheel | 180 FT

https://www.harlemwaterfront.com/index.html

Quote:
Rising 180 feet above the West Harlem Piers, the Harlem Wheel will provide breathtaking views of New York City, the New Jersey Palisades, the George Washington Bridge, Riverside Cathedral, Grant’s Tomb, and more!

Inspired by the success of the Seattle Great Wheel and The Capital Wheel as examples of effective waterfront development, the Harlem Wheel has the potential to become an iconic New York landmark, attracting visitors from across the Hudson River, the Tri-State area, and around the globe.

The site will also be home to the Harlem Rocket, which is supposed to open this summer...

Quote:
Experience an exhilarating sightseeing adventure aboard a US Coast Guard registered 90-passenger high-speed boat. Tours will focus on the unique historic and cultural aspects of the Upper Manhattan waterfront, with longer tours available to Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

This is... interesting.

Seems like it would make more sense at Riverbank state park though.

This is right by Dinosaur BBQ, which is really good. I wouldn't mind BBQ and a ferris wheel.

Riverbank park is fine, and about to undergo it's own refurbishment. But what's happening here is they're trying to revitalize this particular portion of the waterfront. I think it's harmless. We'll see what happens.

^ I read an article recently, where they want to move on, now that City has canceled the lease. Adams supposedly has a plan for that area, so we’ll see what goes on there.

yup, casino is mentioned below -- hey as an incentive they would get a free ny wheel parking garage out it, but anyway we'll see ... i suppose for now let it all be a cautionary tale for the harlem wheel plans.

Quote:
“Coming off the heels of Mayor Adams’ State of the City address and the announcement for the North Shore Master Plan, we’ve heard from the community, and this is the time for a renewed focus on the New York Wheel site. We are working in close collaboration with Councilmember [Kamillah] Hanks and Borough President [Vito] Fossella on next steps for the future of the site and look forward to what the future holds for the North Shore,” said NYCEDC President and CEO Andrew Kimball.

NEXT STEPS

So what’s next? After Borough President Vito Fossella and Councilwoman Kamillah Hanks (D-North Shore) asked the city to come up with a new plan, Mayor Eric Adams said the city would embark on a North Shore Master Plan. Prior to Adams’ announcement, Fossella pitched building a casino on the site after the state said New York State Gaming Commission would be issuing three Class III licenses to create three full-service casinos in the downstate region.

The NYCEDC will soon issue a request for proposals (RFP) for a new project to be built on the Wheel site. The agency said it will work with elected officials and the community about the best use for the property. The new developer will likely have to get creative to utilize the four 100-ton pedestals in a new blueprint for the site.
