San Antonio Metro Area Public Transportation Initiative

This thread is created by individuals in the 2015 class of Alexander Briseno Leadership Development Program. Our group initiative is to promote advocacy for implementation of a mass transit system for the San Antonio Metro area through data and stats. We'd like to publish statistics showing benefits of a public transportation system. All posts that have any reports or related thoughts in support/disapproval are welcome.

Economic Benefit of Public Transportation: Cost Benefit Ratio

According to studies done by publictransportation.org (http://www.publictransportation.org/...oGraphics.aspx), every $1 in capital investment yields $3 in increased business sales. I'm assuming this refers to added revenue for area businesses. If that's true, the additional revenues would in turn lead to an increase in tax revenue for the city.

Mass Transit System Benefit: Individual Fuel-Cost Savings

Among several other economic benefits of implementing a mass transit system on a micro-level are average fuel-cost savings that it would yield for individuals. The following link provided by publictransportation.org ( http://www.publictransportation.org/...s/default.aspx) shows what a commuter can expect to save on fuel costs based on parameters entered. I presume the figures are based on historical data in metro areas that have some sort of mass transit system.
