Retail is built where people have money to spend.

More closings down south, now it's JC Penny. Can't be a coincidence that 3 of their biggest stores are closing so many stores shortly after Trump took over.

Yeah because department stores have been such a money making success in the last decade!

It has been occurring for decades. I for one miss the days of having several department stores to shop at. I loathe online shopping. I am glad I was not born today. Here is to an acceleration of niche smaller brick and mortar retailers...

Your kidding right? You seriously think it has anything to do with trump? Might want to look at what's been happening to sears, Kmart and others WAAAAY before trump was around.

Sunrise Records will take over the leases of 70 HMV (out of around 100) locations across Canada, including some location(s) in Winnipeg.
A list of stores will be available once the leases are signed.

No.You are terribly mistaken.
It will be like 1/3 the size of Polo Park and half of St Vital.
Seasons Outlet mall might be the 4th or 5th largest.
Polo Park first, St Vital Mall is second, Kildonan Place third etc...
Polo is between 1.2 and 1.3 million sq ft.
St V is near 900,000

It's kind of hard to say. I've been having trouble finding the exact sq. footage of both St. Vital and PP main buildings. When the sq. footage is listed for those, it normally includes all freestanding structures. So St. Vital's 900,000 sq ft includes Co-Op, Earls, Montanas, Old Navy, every building on the property.

The Seasons website says 400K sq. ft, and I found a freep article that says 385,000. I think this would likely be just the mall, and not the out buildings, since Sears in St. Vital is ~ 200K sq ft. and I can't see the outlet mall being smaller than that.

Does anyone know the actual square footage of the main buildings of each mall?

^ I think we can all agree that regardless of size, the novelty factor of Seasons (and the fact that it's the only outlet mall for at least 700 km in any direction) means that it will be a major retail player in this town once it opens.

For what it's worth, Wiki lists Polo as over 1.2 million sq ft, St V over 900,000, and KP over 460,000, but all seem to include everything on the property. Either way Seasons doesn't seem like it will be larger than any of those.

As far as route 90 is concerned building an interchange right would create a major traffic headache no doubt. Just like it will on the Chief.
????

That's just upper/middle class, but the rich simply will be AMONG them, because there aren't many rich. This isn't La Jolla, where and entire neighbourhood consists of $10+M homes. These are merely people who will go to Moxies once a week instead of McDonalds.

It's not like retail is thriving in East St Paul either.

Besides, Winnipeg is a cheap city... "rich" Winnipeggers in the southwest get rich by not spending, so if they do want something nice they'll get it on sale... hence outlets. As others said, you go where it will sell.

Winnipeg stopped trying to do retail right.

This may not affect many people here but Mitchell Fabrics which has been around over 70 years on Main is closing soon.

Remember going there once or twice as a kid with my parents.

Damn. One of the last regular, everyday retailers on that North Main strip between Portage and the tracks.

From my crude calculations in Google Earth. The total mall area appears to be at 600,000 sq. ft. That image is from November 25.

And Mitchell Fabrics. Just last week on the bus I was thinking how great they have survived. Now, they haven't... Went in there with Mom regularly when I was a kid. I remember the time someone crashed through the front doors right at the corner.
