Sucks that Krushell is leaving municipal politics - she would have been my choice for Mayor. But with the long hours and a son to rear, it's perfectly understandable.

Is it possible that she would rather support someone else rather than splitting the vote . May be she is the sacrificial lamb. I know that we need a strong candidate to make sure Diotte does not win.

Doesn't explain her exit as a Councillor though.

Teenage son and ailing parent-in-laws are reasons why Krushell is leaving politics. I agree with Staples, she'd be a strong Mayor.

Mike Nickel made it official he's running in Ward 11:

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/...144/story.html

Quote:
Former councillor Mike Nickel to seek council seat in Ward 11

BY GORDON KENT, EDMONTON JOURNAL JUNE 12, 2013

EDMONTON - Former city councillor Mike Nickel will try for a comeback as a candidate for Ward 11, Nickel announced Wednesday.

The seat will be vacant because current councillor Kerry Diotte is seeking the mayor’s chair.

Nickel was elected to city council in 2004. He was defeated by Don Iveson in 2007 after one term as councillor for the former Ward 5 in southwest Edmonton

A pity he's not running for Mayor so that he and Diotte can split the Archie Bunker vote

From the news reports, sounds like Nickel is going to be more balanced and less hardcore on the fiscal conservatism.

I heard him babble...nothing. He spoke but it was an empty thoughless statement on the news. He has discovered the gift of saying nothing...

Considering the high percentage of ethnic Canadians in Ward 11 (Filipino, East African, Southeast Asian), I wonder if there will be another candidate that could be a serious competitor to Nickel.

Alas, to nobody's surprise Leibovici is now officially running for mayor. Iveson tweeted that the announcement re. his future is to come next week.

I don't think you mean "alas", rather "at last." I hope Iveson doesn't run now that there's a credible candidate. If Iveson does run, we better hope that Dorward, or some other retread decides to run to split the vote with Diotte.
