I wonder how they will incorporate the commercial space with a hotel? The Austin Centre Building in Downtown Austin has the Omni Hotel in it, and the way it laid out was always very strange to me...
Don't expect too much with this development (in terms of size and sexiness). Choice's new "boutique" brand is Cambria. It's really a swanky Comfort Suites. In fact, IMO, it's not quite on par with even an Aloft or Element...but, attempts to capture the same target market.

However, more infill is good, right?

I'm more excited about the forthcoming Canopy by Hilton project along the Riverwalk.

Cool...that would indicate a building which would max out in the neighborhood of 300,000 SF (or 262,000 SF of "hotel" space).

I thought this was interesting as well

Dallas-based Encore Enterprises snaps up former Univision radio station in downtown SA

The former Univision radio station in Acequia Plaza will air a different tune now that the property has been acquired by Encore Enterprises.

Encore, a commercial real estate investment firm based in Dallas, purchased the two-parcel downtown site from 3N Management Development, a privately held company backed by the family that founded what is now the Univision network.

I hope they're not planning on tearing down that 2 story office/retail building at 308 S Flores. I don't think it's historic or anything so there's no legal protection for it, but it's always been a building that I've liked and that really "works" as just a functional and attractive pedestrian oriented commercial building. It would be a shame if it were to become a high rise hotel.

Let's try this again:
I...do...not...like...the...window...A/C...units. They...are...not...aesthetically...pleasing...in...any...type...of...building.

I don't see how it "works" or is functional at all. It's definitely not that attractive being that most of it is empty. I'm not finding the pedestrian oriented bit to be true either. That would imply people were walking in and out of it, when truthfully, there would need to be businesses there for there to be interaction. At least a hotel would get put to use.

But they make such a wonderful hissing noise in your hotel room. It lulls you right to sleep.

On the preliminary agenda for the HDRC meeting of March 16, there is an application for demolition with new construction affecting 139 to 151 E Commerce. That's everything between the Esquire and the "Chinese Restaurant" building. Let's hope this application makes it to the final agenda. Let's also hope it's not just another hotel.

The first five floors of the Rand Building are tenants of Weston Urban, but most are slated to be tech companies that want close proximity to the co-working floors. The 2nd floor is under renovation with projected office suite opening in the spring. Likewise, undisclosed retail tenants on the first floor are expected to move in during 2016 too.

Seeing things about Geekdom really makes me bitter about not getting the job there...

But on the plus side, this is awesome! Great news for the amount of people in and out of downtown. I wonder what tenants will be on the bottom floors for retail.

Really like the second image from the article, but could live with either one. Hopefully the final design will be close.

Are these those convenience store store buildings just west of the proposed Canopy by Hilton hotel?
