I cannot imagine who would, HossC, thanks. Beautiful!

I also liked that Spalding Maids Panorama photo you posted. Lots of great faces. Nice touches, too,
like the child sitting to the side in the front. I like the last girl in line, also, who seems to be yelling
out "don't forget to look at me, too" by posing with her left foot positioned in the opposite direction
as everyone else! LOL!

Were they manufacturing the infamous "Norden" bomb-sights?
I don't know if there even were any other kinds.

I agree t2. With it's unique history, it should be saved.

This snapshot from the 1920s has all kinds of written 'clues', but I can't make heads or tails out of it.

If you look closely, there is a movie camera in front of the car. (and it looks like the car is being towed)

And there's a mighty fine house in the background as well.

I believe this is from the same seller that had the photographs I posted back in May showing a silent movie being filmed at the Muller Bros. Service Station. (6380 Sunset Blvd.)

From the 1970s to the 1990s this was the location of 'Studio One', arguably the most famous gay bar in Los Angeles.

The Norden Bombsight was a CLASSIFIED complicated bombing device that actually required the Bombardier Officer to ''fly the plane'' when it was over the target.
When I was a kid my uncle talked about it with great reverence. No other nation had anything like it.

I very much enjoyed your Corriganville site. My memories are from a later time after the 1970 fire. Explored the property many times, though not much was left of the town; the barn, some out buildings, and one of the soundstages remained; the saloon I believe. The "Hopetown" signage was still up. Sometime in the mid 1970's, they sadly used the property to run a motocross race through many of the roadway film locations. I visited Corriganville (Park) recently; how sad to see the resultant fire took out what had remained of the town, and only a few foundations remain.

Interesting and spooky stuff for sure. As I recall, the murder of Marion Parker was pretty extensively covered here on NLA, starting with this post from page 89.

I got to see one up close at the old Planes of Fame Museum in Buena Park in the 1970's. As I recall, the description said the bombsights were outfitted with a small explosive so the bombardier could destroy it if the plane was forced to land in enemy territory. I suppose being shot down took care of the problem anyway. None was captured intact by the Germans nor the Japanese.

Here are a couple enigmatic photographs from 1920s Los Angeles.

description from eBay.
"Vintage SAPS (letters on sign?) Los Angeles Aeroplane Junk-Yard Photo"

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-SAPS...item28030d04d7

Is that Baldwin Hills in the distance?

And later in the day, I came across this second photograph.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-LOS-...item28032eb4ba

Does anyone have any ideas where this might be?

Hey, I'm new here but have been reading for a while and I really enjoy the site.

My first attempt at a contribution:
Could this be in the Long Beach area with Signal Hill in the background? It would make sense that there could have been an airplane junkyard at Long Beach Airport and a photo shot there looking southward would show Signal Hill in the distance.

Welcome Bristolian!

This mystery has been a difficult one to solve. What's especially intriguing to me is the long building in the second photograph.
What is that bell-shaped object over the front entrance? And is the small 'house-like room' on the roof a sort of a lookout 'tower'?

And I don't know my geography well enough to tell if the hills in the background are Baldwin or Signal.

I also was hoping someone here on NLA might recognize some of the aircraft.
I thought that might be a WWI era tank on the right in the first photograph, but now I'm not so sure.

Plus, there's that enigmatic sign in the first photograph. The seller on eBay thought it said SAPS.
__

So thanks for your hypothesis Bristolian. You could be on to something.

*There was also a 'Wilmington Airport' in between Bixby Slough and Figueroa.
You can read more about it and others in the Long beach area here:

It looks like Mr. Zabendin built his trout filled 'lake' in his very own backyard. I wonder if he got the proper permits?

oldstuff, do you think you could dig up some information on Clarence Zabendin?
His home address might prove to be the location of his lake folly.

Here's a closer look at the people.
