In the late 50's/early 60's, my friends and I would bicycle from Atwater (Village), across the LA river pedestrian bridge to what we called The Griffith Park Pool (?) countless times. Fond summertime memories as a kid. As I recall, they had a morning session, and an afternoon session. Fifteen cents per session, as I recall.

If you look closely, there is a movie camera in front of the car. (and it looks like the car is being towed)

I very much enjoyed your Corriganville site. My memories are from a later time after the 1970 fire. Explored the property many times, though not much was left of the town; the barn, some out buildings, and one of the soundstages remained; the saloon I believe. The "Hopetown" signage was still up. Sometime in the mid 1970's, they sadly used the property to run a motocross race through many of the roadway film locations. I visited Corriganville (Park) recently; how sad to see the resultant fire took out what had remained of the town, and only a few foundations remain.

I got to see one up close at the old Planes of Fame Museum in Buena Park in the 1970's. As I recall, the description said the bombsights were outfitted with a small explosive so the bombardier could destroy it if the plane was forced to land in enemy territory. I suppose being shot down took care of the problem anyway. None was captured intact by the Germans nor the Japanese.

My first attempt at a contribution:
Could this be in the Long Beach area with Signal Hill in the background? It would make sense that there could have been an airplane junkyard at Long Beach Airport and a photo shot there looking southward would show Signal Hill in the distance.

This mystery has been a difficult one to solve. What's especially intriguing to me is the long building in the second photograph.
What is that bell-shaped object over the front entrance? And is the small 'house-like room' on the roof a sort of a lookout 'tower'?

And I don't know my geography well enough to tell if the hills in the background are Baldwin or Signal.

I also was hoping someone here on NLA might recognize some of the aircraft.
I thought that might be a WWI era tank on the right in the first photograph, but now I'm not so sure.

Plus, there's that enigmatic sign in the first photograph. The seller on eBay thought it said SAPS.

Carla Laemmle was the niece of Carl Laemmle, founder of Uiversal Pictures. She earned cinema immortality by speaking the first line in Lugosi's "Dracula." Carla died just over a year ago at the age of 103.
