Looks like they are getting ready for the concrete pour behind the PATH station entrance. That's where Greenwich Street is going to be laid out, right?

What you all see behind the PATH station is dye used to test for water leaks. I believe they are getting ready to pave Greenwich Street there.

Authorities to charge four men in skydive from 1 World Trade Center
The Manhattan district attorney’s office plans to charge Andrew Rossig, James Brady, Kyle Hartwell and Marco Markovich with burglary for their predawn plunge from the tower, a source told the Daily News. Three skydivers leaped off the building around 3 a.m. on Sept. 30 while a fourth man remained on the ground as a lookout.

It was a Geroni-no-no.

Authorities are poised to charge four daredevils in a dangerous, predawn skydive from 1 World Trade Center six months ago, a source told the Daily News.

Word of the charges came on the heels of a major security breach at 1 World Trade Center last week when a New Jersey teen crawled through a hole in a fence and managed to reach the roof of the tower, 1,368 feet above street level.

Fears of terrorism were sparked when two of the men, clad in black and wearing helmets, were caught on security cameras landing between the Goldman Sachs building and the Conrad Hotel.

The men were carrying parachutes but investigators were unsure at the time whether they jumped from a building or a plane.

In the end, the parachutists were nabbed because they saved video footage of the exploits.

Authorities got search warrants for their homes and discovered GoPro camera footage of the jump, the source said.
It was unclear how investigators identified the men

The Manhattan district attorney’s office plans to charge the four — Andrew Rossig, James Brady, Kyle Hartwell and Marco Markovich — with burglary, the source said. Other charges are possible.

Hartwell kept lookout on the ground and the other three jumped, the source said. They are all expected to surrender to the NYPD’s First Precinct on Thursday.

The district attorney’s office and the Port Authority declined to comment on the case Sunday.

Rossig and Brady were previously arrested in December 2012 for trying to jump from a tower at Co-op City in the Bronx. The duo and two other men were on the roof of a 33-floor building with parachutes when they were caught by cops, the Bronx Times reported.

Rossig also received tickets for disorderly conduct after jumping off an Orange County bridge in 2008, the Times Herald-Record reported.

The fact that security at 1 World Trade Center remained lax nearly six months after the skydivers jumped drew harsh criticism from a lawyer representing one of the men.

Port Authority didn’t pay to install WTC security cameras

By Philip Messing
March 24, 2014

Quote:
Port Authority officials bought a surveillance system in August that could have detected the 16-year-old kid who got to the top of 1 World Trade Center last week — but it’s still sitting in its box in a back office because they didn’t want to pay extra for installation, a well-placed source told The Post.

The PA honcho in charge of the $4,000 security purchase for the top of America’s No. 1 terror target was furious that such a seemingly large amount of money was spent on the two-camera system and refused to spend any more to hook it up, the source said.

“He looked at me and my colleague and said, ‘Why did I spend $4,000 on this equipment when you could have gone to Home Depot and gotten something cheaper?’ ’’ said the source, a veteran electrician who worked on the project for the vendor, Angel Electronics.

“I was kind of stunned, because that’s a pretty bold statement to make considering we got the specs from them, and the Port Authority had it made to order.”

The 114-floor, 1,776-foot Freedom Tower, which is still under construction, was the site of a potentially disastrous security blunder last week when young daredevil Justin Casquejo managed to breeze past several layers of security to make it to the top floor of the tower.

At the top is a massive spire and antenna designed to control sensitive radio, television and cellphone traffic in the region, as well as signals used to maintain the smooth operation of area airports, tunnels and bridges.

The PA bought the “Two-Camera DVR Solution System” specifically to safeguard the tower, the source said. He added the cameras were to be installed quickly after the early August purchase; the spire that holds the antenna was hoisted into place in May.

PA spokesman Steve Coleman said the cameras “had no surveillance value whosoever” even if they had been installed because there was no infrastructure in place to get them working. “The building is still under construction, so the wiring for the network has not yet reached the 104th floor,” he said.

City’s towers in LED arms race to get brightest spot in skyline

LED lit buildings like One World Trade and One Bryant Park are lighting up the city's skyline in an LED arms race

By Kate Briquelet
March 23, 2014

The city’s biggest buildings are vying for the brightest spot in the skyline — putting on kaleidoscopic displays as flashy as a Pink Floyd concert with the help of computerized LEDs.

The illuminating arms race is being led by the iconic Empire State Building, which since 2012 has staged light shows for the Super Bowl, Christmas, Halloween, the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve.

Building owner Anthony Malkin even hired renowned lighting designer Marc Brickman — who has lit up Bruce Springsteen and Blue Man Group — for the job.

“If you just throw LED lights on a building, it can end up looking like the red-light district in Amsterdam,” Malkin told The Post.

Prior to the new system, the Empire State crew would spend hours manually changing color discs the size of pizzas on 400 floodlights that shine on the facade. The archaic system had only 10 hues and up to three colors at a time.

Today, there are millions of digital effects and colors from the 72nd floor to the top. With the push of a button, color themes can be changed instantly.

“[Developers] are looking for their facilities to stand out amongst the crowd,” said Jeff Campbell of Philips Color Kinetics, which supplied the Empire State’s lighting system.

Here’s what’s the famous tower and its flashy competitors can do in the night sky:

The Helmsley building
This 35-story Beaux-Arts landmark at 230 Park Ave. has had more than 700 LED fixtures beaming up every night at sunset until 2 a.m. since 2012.

One World Trade Center
The Freedom Tower — now the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere at 104 stories — is testing the LEDs on its 408-foot-high spire with bursts of red, white and blue. The Port Authority and co-owner Durst Organization, which first brought LEDs to the city at 4 Times Square and One Bryant Park, expect the program to be ready in the next few months.

One Bryant Park
The Durst Organi- zation first sparked the LED race at Sixth Avenue and 42nd Street with One Bryant Park, also known as the Bank of America Tower, wrapping the 2010 Best Tall Building’s nearly 300-foot-tall spire in lights. With the touch of a remote, building managers can transform the white-lit tower’s top into a swirling rainbow.

731 Lexington Ave.
Developer Vornado Realty Trust tripped the light fantastic last summer with 6,700 program-mable LED panels on three floors at the top of the 55-story building, also known as the Bloomberg Tower. Building reps say the lights emit

16 million hues and can be programmed to create rainbow and cross-fade effects. The lights can be programmed to ripple, which has been done during some holidays

Burglary? For jumping from the building? What'd they steal? That makes no sense... Criminal Trespass sure, but I'm not connecting the dots for burglary...

Teen Who Climbed World Trade Center Apologizes on Twitter

by Evan McMurry
March 24th, 2014

Quote:
A few days after slipping through a surprisingly porous security system to climb to the spire of the World Trade Center, sixteen-year-old Justin Casquejo apologized on Twitter,
the same platform on which he first planted his virtual flag:

I seriously apologize to anyone who may have been insulted or felt disrespected by my actions. It was not my intention to do so.

Burglary here is entering with the intent to commit a crime. It does not solely deal with robbery or theft. I'm no expert but they can probably be nabbed for this because they entered the building surreptitiously

One of WTC BASE jumpers helped build tower

Andrew Rossig (left), James Brady (right) and a third man are charged with in a parachute jump off the World Trade Center.

One of the three daredevils facing charges for parachuting from the World Trade Center last year is an ironworker who helped build the skyscraper — and may also have smuggled in the gear for the death-defying stunt, The Post has learned.

James Brady, 32, was one of two hardhats photographed installing a steel beam signed by President Obama on the tower’s 104th floor in 2012.

The Long Island resident is also suspected of sneaking in the parachutes and helping pals Andrew Rossig and Marko Markovich get access to the world’s top terror target for their Sept. 30 escapade, according to a law-enforcement source.

“This is an inside person who apparently went rogue for his own self-glorification,” the source said.

Brady, Rossig and Markovich surrendered Monday afternoon to cops at the First Precinct, where they’re expected to get slapped with burglary and trespassing charges.

Brady and Rossig had been scheduled to appear at an afternoon news conference that was scrapped when authorities moved up their surrender date, initially set for Thursday.

On his way out of his lawyer’s office, Rossig — who’s been busted previously for other jumps — said the leap from the nation’s tallest building was “exhilarating.”

“It was a fair amount of free fall time. You get incredible views of the city,” said Rossig, 33.

Rossig said he sneaked onto Ground Zero through a hole in a fence that was covered by a tarp, adding that it took “no effort whatsover” to breach security there.

“Of course it’s supposed to be the most secure building in the US,” Rossig said.

“God forbid it was somebody else getting in there with intentions of harm to New Yorkers.”

Earlier, Rossig said his only regret was getting caught.

“The intent was for nobody to ever find out and for nobody to get hurt and nobody did get hurt. I’m just trying not to go to jail,” he said.

Rossig also said the trio picked the World Trade Center tower because “it’s the biggest building in the Western Hemisphere,” adding that no disrespect was meant to the victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Brady, who didn’t comment as he surrendered, denied any involvement in the caper when he was questioned by cops, a law-enforcement source said.

I noticed that half of the LEDs on 1 WTC's mast are still out. They've been like that for a few days now. What's going on with that?

When the article said that the PA and Durst expect the spire lighting program to be ready in a few months, is that meant to be the official permanent lighting for the spire/mast?

I understand the exception most may take with this breach, but I just watched it 5 times, and will probably watch it another 5 times before today's over. Unreal!
