I love this. Chinatown is pretty dense based on the square block radius it comprises of, so having a mid-rise in its neighborhood is great for the people and the community at large.

I think what you're looking at is a 'park' of sorts built on the bridge that crosses over the Vine St. expressway. Probably not a great place for peaceful, quiet navel gazing, but certainly better then a straight bridge. Is there another park that goes along with this project?

That "park" has been there for several years now. It was part of a landscape improvement initiative.

It was intended to be a nice park. It can be, but unfortunately the homeless have taken it over and it is now another site of nothing but foul urine and human waste stench. It is one in a long line of Chinatown area sites to be over run by the homeless and the city does not provide any options for the residents of the area to remove these people. The Convention Center tunnels on 12th and 13th Streets are the most foul smelling area in Center City/Chinatown. The Convention Center Truck Ramp has now become another area commandeered by these people with two more little camps popping up recently.

I still really wish that the original design was the one that stuck. It was so distinctive and original compared to what is being built. I mean I'm glad that this building is finally coming to fruition but I hate that we have to settle for this design. There's really nothing good you can say about the current design of the building now.

You can say that it's activating a dead zone with some density. If it were a one-story gas station I'd be very sad, but a boring mid-rise instead of a parking lot is 56% to a win, in my eyes.

Yes, the original design was the best. But, I'm glad this one is off and running now. The financing and grant hurdle was real and really hard to overcome. I'm glad the right people made it finally happen. And, ultimately this is good for the neighborhood and its people.
