If you apply the definition of a roof to both buildings consistently, that's not really true. The top of Comcast Center is an unoccupied, steel framed crown. The "roof" of CTC is higher if we define it as the structure enclosing the the top of the last occupied floor. But if we define the roof as the top of a non-occupied structure at the top of a building, then once again, CTC is taller.

The top portion of the Comcast Center is a cooling tower much like CTC. The top floor of the CTC is higher than the top floor of the Comcast Center. So when you're enjoying a drink in the sky lobby of CTC you'll be looking down at the peons in the Comcast Center.

I sometimes wonder if they had elected to make the top of the CTC all cooling tower like CC instead of spreading out some of the cooling floors like they did, would CTC be "overall" taller than CC? Looking at pics...I think so...

and, isn't the height of the CTC cooling tower a skosh higher than the height of the Comcast Center cooling tower metal enclosure non-occupied boxy roof-like, thing?

Yes - Comcast tops out at 975', and CTC's cooling tower will top out at 996.5'.

Right. Now that someone has noticed the roof height is shorter than the Comcast Center, I say we rip the whole damn building down. This is too much to bear. I'd rather have a parking lot.

Why not 1003.5? Or 1003.127421?

Maybe the reason why the rest of the building roof is taking awhile, is because they realized they need to go taller and are extending the heights a bit! One can dream, right?

Over 5,000 posts and nobody noticed this! Thanks!

the height of a building is one of the followingcouncil on tall buildings)

the top of the roof

the top of the spire, the spire being an attenuation of the structural framing system, not an antenna which is not part of the framing system

the top of the highest occupied floor

The top of a spire is, IMO, the most honest measure of the height of a building. Think of a gothic cathedral from the middle ages. The spire is the culmination of the masonry construction and even though it is not normally occupied it is one with the stone construction that supports it.

I don't think the CTC's beacon counts as a spire, since it's structurally kind of the backbone of the building and not just plopped on top like WTC1.

It was a joke. Not a teaching moment.

absolutely, it has more substance/girth than a typical spire; the lantern is in a bit of a class by itself & on CTC it is a visible backbone, at least from the renderings something you can actually touch the base of at street level - it's unique.

very much in agreement with you. Without the lantern this building wouldn't be nearly the same as with it.

I've said this before, this building has a trophy like appearance with the step ups and spire massing.

I know who it is. He took my photos too. I contacted him and he said he can share them if he wants too, but later deleted the videos with my photos. I warned him about what the photographers will say and the consequences, but he just blocked me and kept making videos
