Does Dubai not require water sprinklers?

That should have stopped the spread of any fire unless it was premeditated.

That's ironic that it's named The "Torch"??? very appropriate.
Aren't these skyscrapers installed with water sprinklers of some kind? (This one was not apparently.)
Philly learned its lesson when it came to the Meridian High Rise fire that killed 3 Firemen.
Thanks for posting all of those wonderful renderings Chris. Hopefully they will be equipped with safety and fire prevention devices or mechanicals that will prevent something like this in the future. Thank goodness there were no casualties.

Houston had a disastrous hotel fire back in the late '70s that highlighted the lack of a code requirement for sprinklers in high-rises (this one was not quite ten stories when it burned), but that changed in a hurry. Even the City of No Zoning knew it was playing with fire...

Your right, scrolled a little bit down to where it only shows the crown and man it just looks like they put hard rock hotel over the frost tower.

Nshama Launches Massive Residential Project Town Square In Dubai

Quote:
Private developer Nshama announced that it has launched Town Square, an integrated residential development near the Al Barsha area in Dubai.

Spread across 750 acres of land, Town Square will feature 3,000 townhouses and 18,000 apartments in addition to retail, hospitality and commercial units.

Residential units in the development will include a mix of three and four bedroom townhouses and mid-rises with one, two and three bedroom apartments, the developer said.

The project will also include natural and paved running tracks along with outdoor gymnasiums, skateboard parks, children’s play area, green spaces, swimming pools and access to cycle tracks that complement the Al Qudra cycle track.

“It also meets the significant demand for middle-income value housing with quality and affordable price points as our prime consideration,” said Fred Durie, CEO of Nshama.

“All our projects are similarly planned to meet the growing middle-income demand for end-user homes, led by our vision to bring a new lifestyle choice to Dubai that transforms the lives of people.”

The developer did not reveal the value or the scheduled completion date of the project.

Panoramic viewing tower planned for Dubai's Palm Jumeirah

Quote:
An observation tower with views over one of Dubai’s signature developments and a fresh approach to a vastly underused part of the city’s transport network are two of the features of a retail project currently underway from architects RSP.

The Nakheel Mall, located on the Palm Jumeirah was first conceived in 2012 and will be the first large scale commercial project on the manmade island. Among its features will be a 200m tall observation tower, while the existing Dubai monorail which runs the length of the Palm, will cut through the centre of the structure.

The architects said the development would add a new attraction to Dubai and make far greater use of an under-developed part of the city, which is currently home to luxurious villas and hotels but – water park aside – is not really on the map as a tourist destination.

The Nakheel Mall is planned to have a total leasing area of over 300,000 sq m and will also feature a 200-room five star hotel, 500 serviced apartments and the viewing deck offering panoramic sea views and a look back on the city skyline.

Project director Ralf Steinhauer said: “The observation platform is an integrated component of the project from the initial master plan. The unique location of the mall located at the heart of the Palm has allowed the architects to develop an observation platform 200m above sea level. The visitors at the mall can get a high speed lift directly from the food and beverage plaza to the observation level.”
RSP director Prabhanjan Kambadur said the tower will allow visitors a unique perspective on Dubai.

“It will be the first time – except from the air – that people will be able to see the whole of The Palm. The 360 degree view will take in the Burj al Arab the Burj Khalifa and all the city out to Arabian Ranches. As well as views out across the sea it will offer an unrivalled view of the city skyline.”

New green villa community The Nest launches in Dubai

Quote:
A new residential development at the Al Barari estate, a green community in the Dubai desert, has been launched on Wednesday.

The Nest includes 99 four-bed villas set in a forest environment. Each home is designed to blend indoor and outdoor living, with an outdoor shower, barbeque area and infinity edge pool, Al Barari said in a statement announcing the launch.

The villas will be available in two styles that offer subtle differences in layout and lifestyle, but both include floor to ceiling windows and a contemporary aesthetic using a colour palette of cream, grey and white.

Dubai's Museum of the Future

Video Link

Quote:
With its motto as “see the future, create the future”, the museum will aim to actively encourage designers, researchers, scientists, entrepreneurs and financiers to come together and collaborate in the development of new technologies. Display areas will be used to showcase new inventions – complete with dramatic, foreboding soundtrack a promotional video shows robots engaging with guests as drones fly overhead – and major tech companies will be able to demonstrate their latest products in the building.

Expected to cost some $136million, the museum will be located near Sheikh Zayed Road in the Emirates Tower area and part of the structure will be 3D printed rather than conventionally built. As high-profile as the attraction will be, it isn’t the only development set to alter Dubai’s skyline in the coming years.

Dubai Metro’s Red Line to get seven new stations for Expo 2020

Quote:
The Dubai Metro will be extended by 15 kilometres, with seven new stations leading to the site of Expo 2020 and 4km of underground rail.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, on Saturday approved the Route 2020 project for the Metro Red Line and ordered that the building start immediately.

Sheikh Mohammed said the project must be finished in time to cater for the increased number of passengers expected for Expo 2020, which will take place in the region for the first time.

The total length of the Dubai Metro, red and green lines, will be increased to 90km. Two of the seven new stations, from Nakheel Harbour and Tower Metro to the Expo site, will be underground.

“The construction of Route 2020 project conforms to the strategic vision of the Dubai Government for achieving sustainable development, and developing a world-class infrastructure and services,” said Mattar Al Tayer, chairman and executive director of the Roads and Transport Authority.

“It also comes as implementation of RTA’s master plan for providing multiple options of integrated mass transit comprising the Metro, tram, buses and water transport towards realising RTA’s vision of safe and smooth transport for all.

“The RTA has mapped out an integrated plan for roads and transport projects to serve Expo highlighted by Route 2020 project.”

Mr Al Tayer said the plan was for a sustainable project to serve the city during and after Expo 2020.

“It also serves the largest possible number of residents as well as current and future projects, easing snarls on some congested roads, providing top-class service to targeted communities and integrating with public transit systems and the roads network in the emirate.”

I'd be very interested in seeing if there is any update on the progression of the Nakheel Tower. On many posts I've seen that it has been canceled, with multiple renderings and changes but I have seen some posts allude to the continuation of the tower. I was wondering if there is any update because this would be truly an incredible project!
