I like the modern infill development. And wow, Nashville is booming with all of its shiny new buildings downtown. I wish Tulsa could see some nice new shiny glass buildings in our downtown. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the pics! Always nice to see updated shots... the place almost looks like a different city everytime I come home! Please correct me if I'm wrong but many of those Germantown shots look to be more on the fringes of the neighborhood, is that accurate?

Also, I love The Gulch. I mean, the neighborhood itself is up and coming and trending upward, but I'm talking about the railroad yard itself and all the elevated roads that extend over top it. I think it gives Nashville an overall more gritty and established urban feel than some of it's primary competitors offer.

This is a spectacular catalogue of housing of Nashville. Is there another city of this size transforming the most right now? I'm not sure. Maybe Austin?

Agreed, and that was just a showcase of a portion of one neighborhood (not counting the downtown/gulch pics)... I'd say you're right that Austin is probably transforming at an even faster rate, not to mention growing much taller than Nashville currently is. At any rate, we'll definitely take the growth and are grateful for it!

Very nice. Nashville and Charlotte always vie to be the No. 2 city in the S.E. after Atl. (though, personally, I think that Charleston and Savanah blow them all away).

N'Ville has two advantages over Clt: (1) It has a lot of beautiful, old buildings; and (2) It has a great university (though Duke and UNC aren't too far from Clt).

Nashville looks like it is in the process of transforming from a sprawly town into and urban big city in one fell swoop without the in between stages. It looks kind of disjointed now but eventually they will run out of vacant lots and strip malls to redevelop and it will arrive, fully formed.

Yeah, we are definitely in that 'awkward teen' stage in every district outside of downtown in regards to urbanity, but eventually it'll start to fill out and resemble a cohesive urban environment.

Um, where? Nashville very little in the way of historic, walkable neighborhoods.

i would say n'ville easily wins that with two straight up decent ones, vandy and fisk. they are pretty neutral, but duke carries too much baggage of the silly wannabe ivy league dukies it turns out and unc doesn't register outside of hoops.

i was around the 'vuhl in grad school for 2 semesters in the 80s and then went back only recently and i have to say the changes are very, umm, i wish i could say amazing, but more like disconcerting. its true though it will fill out over time if it continues. its the new austin after all. which was the new portland. which was the new seattle. etc. -- so good for them.

Mostly downtown at this point in time, and I'm assuming he means that Nashville has a lot of historic buildings relative to most of it's sunbelt 'boomtown' peers, which it does, but that is obviously a bit of a low bar. Nashville is a fairly old city by American standards and had quite a respectable collection of historic architecture throughout the older part of the city, but unfortunately most of that which wasn't destroyed over the years by fires, flooding, and tornadoes was destroyed by urban renewal. *sigh*

Wake Forest and Davidson are both closer to Charlotte (Davidson might be within the metro), although both are smaller than Duke/UNC.
