It's always been a favorite of mine. Although it's less intricate, it really reminds me a lot of Big Ben in London.

My hometown (Sherbrooke QC) is severely lacking on classic clocks, I'll go with my adoptive home, Albany's main (and nicest) downtown clocks are the City Hall's,

and the Dutch Reformed Church's. The current building is from the 1790s, but the middle of the facade was "improved" in the 1850s. (First image from 2010 and second one from 1800, the difference is visible.)

The tiles originally were overlaid with copper, which took on a greenish hue. Three times since - 1954, 1979, and 1998 - the dome was gilded with pure gold. The last restoration required 140,000 paper-thin sheets of 23.75-carat gold leaf and cost $500,000.

Buffalo Central Terminal c.1929
Unlike other Rust Belt cities this terminal is not left for dead. It is in the loving care of the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation. It is used for events like Buffalo's Dyngus Day festival, or available to rent for weddings or other events while the CTRC actively seeks a solid reuse proposal.

My favorite clock in Winston-Salem has to be Home Moravian Church, which rises above the historic 1765 square. This clock is around 214-215 years old! When I see it above the rooftops and hear those bells, I know I'm in Winston-Salem.

Another favorite, due to its history, is Calvary Moravian. The clock is the original 1893 clock from Winston-Salem's former Richardson Romanesque City Hall. City Hall was replaced and demolished for a 23-storey skyscraper in 1927, but the clock was saved and moved to this church.

Source

I found a photograph of it, when it was on City Hall. Yes, it's the same clock!

This has turned out to be an amazing thread! I honestly don't think I could come up with a top 10 list of my favorite buildings in this thread. It would be too difficult. It is interesting how the clock towers in most cities are some of their most grand buildings.

Would be cool to follow this thread up with our cities' most grand bell towers.

Clock towers are a pretty common sight across much of the UK; they are strongly associated with town halls and churches, but they are also associated with offices, stations, factories, etc… If I get the time I’ll try and dig out some of the more well-defined ones, but there are probably hundreds, if not more dotted across the country ranging from the majestic London St Pancras station (nicer than ‘Big Ben’ in my opinion) to village green clock towers of only a few metres in height.

As a teaser, I present the Joseph Chamberlain Memorial Clock Tower which is located at the centre of Birmingham University; it holds the honour of the tallest free standing clock tower in the world at 110m.
