Cool MILWAUKEE | Johnson Controls HQ | FT | 50 FLOORS (potential new tallest for the city)

some exciting breaking skyscraper news out of milwuakee today!

if built to the reported 50 stories, this would almost certainly be a new tallest building for the city of milwaukee, probably standing in the 700-800 ft. range.

the city's current tallest building is the 42 floor, 601 ft. US Bank Center built in 1973.

Alderman says Johnson Controls is planning 50-story HQ downtown
January 21. 2015 4:18PM

Johnson Controls Inc. is working on plans for a 50-story, 1.2 million-square-foot corporate headquarters office building that would be built near the lakefront in downtown Milwaukee, according to Ald. Robert Bauman, who represents the downtown area.

“That’s what I’ve heard from people at (the Department of City Development) and the mayor’s office,” Bauman said. “They want to build the biggest building in the state.”

By comparison, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. is building a 32-story, 1.1 million-square-foot office building at its downtown Milwaukee corporate headquarters campus. The U.S. Bank Center at 777 E. Wisconsin Ave. is 42 stories tall with 1.07 million square feet of space, according to city records.

Bauman estimates the proposed Johnson Controls corporate headquarters building would house about 2,000 to 3,000 employees. The building will house all of the company’s top executives and corporate office staff, he said.

“This is maybe one of the biggest deals ever for downtown,” Bauman said.

Ald. Nik Kovac, on the floor of the Common Council today, referred to the project as the, “Johnson Controls world headquarters consolidation.”

here's an image of milwaukee's potential brand new skyline from an SSC forumer. the new johnson controls tower is the one on the far left.

this is purely the conceptual work of an SSC forumer that in no way represents anything official regarding how the new tower may look.

also shown in the image below are new projects that will give milwaukee an entirely brand new skyline if they all get built. exciting times in brew city!

LOL! Milwaukee does seem to have a mild obsession with white buildings.

Whatever it is I bet it's over 800 feet, and is an absolute masterpiece. Good HQ's has to be Iconic.

Thanks for posting this over here Steely. I think most Milwaukee folks tend to forget to share big news like this on SSP. If it all gets built, it's nothing less than game changing for my hometown. Good times.

Seems like a little boom is occurring over there. Good times for the region.

A new tallest would be nice, and it would be following the current trend of cities building their new tallests all over the nation.

yep, by global city standards, a little mini-boom for sure.

but by milwaukee standards, this could be the biggest building boom of skyscrapers in its entire history!

here are milwaukee's existing 400+ foot buildings:

1. US Bank Center - 601'
2. 100 E. Wisconsin - 549'
3. University Club Tower - 446'
4. Milwaukee Center - 408'
5. 411 E. Wisconsin - 400'

and here are the 400+ foot proposed buildings:

1. JCI World HQ - 700'+
2. NML Tower - 550'
3. The Couture - 507'
4. 700 E. Kilbourne - 415'

that would be quite a dramatic change for Milwaukee's skyline if they all get built.

in many ways it'll be more fun to see a small skyline like milwaukee's go through a big transformation than to see an already large skyline like chicago's continue to go through smaller incremental changes.
