Source???

Wouldn't surprise me though. Broccolini wants to leave no doubt that L'Avenue will be taller than TdC.

False rumour, according to a sales person cited at MtlUrb.

Nothing happening when I walked by at lunch time, contrary to Roccabella where they are back at it with a vengeance, like at the Deloitte site.

Who else thinks this mandatory 2 week holiday is fucking stupid?

Why is it mandatory that precious summer whether be wasted, leaving EVERY construction site in limbo?

Why can't they all take turns?

...

Or how's this for an idea, why don't they take their vacation in the winter??

Sometimes man...sometimes this province brings a tear to my eye, for all the wrong reasons.

Believe it or not, there is ALSO a 2-week MANDATORY vacation in winter.

I agree with you, it's fucking awful. I was explaining the construction holiday to friends from Boston the other day - mutual head-shaking ensued.

I also do think it is a stupid holiday. Plus, with the two weeks of construction strike, there has been a total of a month of halted construction period this summer...

Well, it's easy to criticize from our point of view because we see the construction sites inactive for 2 weeks and it's damn boring!! I would be curious to know if it's more efficient this way? Outside those two weeks, all sites are running 100% while in other places, sites will be running 60-80% all summer.

In places where they don't have this holiday, I can imagine that workers that are not on holiday can have their work affected because others are on holiday.

Just raising the question, I don't know which one is better. Would like to see a study done that compare the two different practices...

It's just that in a country where construction is necessarily slower in winter because of harsh weather, it would be more efficient to work in the summer and take vacation in the winter. In the days when people vacationed locally, it was understandable that construction workers wanted time off in warm weather but these days, everybody with good salaries like they have can go to Cuba or Mexico for winter holidays, they're so inexpensive.

No movement at L'Avenue this week, although the other towers (Deloitte, TDC, Icone, Roccabella) are running full speed!

I hope they add more floors to this one! I would LOVE to see Montreal get a nice 600ft+ building.

I don't see them adding anymore floors. Condo sales in Montreal seem to have dried up somewhat, and new projects seem to be rarer than they were a year ago. I have the impression that the market is getting a bit saturated. I sense that projects starting sales now or in a few months (like YUL) might run into some trouble.

On the positive side, I don't really think we overbuilt, but we met all of the demand in this boom cycle. I imagine that new high-rise condo projects should start launching again in a few years, after the boom cools down and demand recovers.

Our condo construction boom seems to have given way to a student residences boom, which entails the closure and conversion of healthy downtown hotels instead of building new towers.

I know I keep saying it, but developers ought to start thinking seriously about building more highrise rental apartments in downtown.

The demand for downtown living is still there, just not everyone is ready or willing to down 300,000 on a 500 sq ft condo.

So, instead of building small condo units for bachelors, how about we start building bigger family-friendly rentals?

Le site cette semaine...

Ont-ils bougé? Il me semble que le Rockabella avait avancé pas mal plus vite que ce qu'on a vu de l'Avenue lorsqu'ils avaient commencé les travaux...

I don't think construction was ever started on this site... I was really surprised to see that a trench that was dug in July in front of the parking booth was refilled and paved!! Not what you'd expect if digging was about to start.

IMO, I think we need to see a pile-driver (like at the Icône site) before saying that site prep is under way...
