I only have to say nice pictures really beautiful but lucky to be safe and sound.
Ermmm, I walk through downtown Kansas City all the time and never have any problems.

Nice pics.

These are lovely. Clear blue skies, and you really highlighted the beautiful early 20th century architecture.

I think I recall you saying you were planning to visit Pittsburgh as well. If so, how did you like PGH in comparison to Detroit?

Thank you for that. I loved Detroit and have been telling everyone what a great city it is. Unfortunately, I didn't get to Pittsburgh. It ended up being NY, Montreal, Toronto and Detroit. Next time!

You are God for flying from Australia to visit (among other cities) Detroit. Respect!

I actually really liked Detroit. Sure, it has it's obvious problems but overall I really liked the bones of the city. I never felt uncomfortable in the city and I believe I turned down a few roads I probably shouldn't have. I'm glad to see it is starting to bounce back.

Truth to be told, I felt like Flint was much more "scary" than Detroit was.

Anyways, nice pics! Thanks for sharing.

That's pretty ridiculous. I was born and raised in Detroit and I've been to nearly every capital in western Europe; you're far more likely to be pick-pocketed in one of those places than you are in downtown Detroit. Gun violence is the biggest issue in Detroit, but it is something that a tourist would likely not ever witness because it is almost always the result of fighting between locals.

Thanks for the photos. I’m really happy you visited Detroit even though I saw others try to dissuade you. Much respect, and great photos.

It's perfectly safe to walk around downtown Detroit.

Gary, Indiana..Camden, NJ..East St. Louis..probably not somewhere you'd want to saunter around with a camera. Downtown Detroit and select surroundings..I gave it a shot and have been back numerous times.

Before my first visit to Motown, I heard all the obvious perceptions and knew it wasn't exactly a tourist destination but I'm drawn to the grittiness, architecture and raw atmosphere of a rust-belt town and love new developments that are long awaited.

Media can blow things out of proportion and only the most gullible will hang on it's every word. You'll find trouble if you go looking for it but downtown Detroit is actually safer than most parts of the rest of the city.

Take a hike out there and get lost! I did, and absolutely loved it
