add on that the usual tripods, flashes, bags, filters, cards, etc. i typically carry the d700, the 16-35, the 24mm pc-e, maybe the fast primes, one of the mid-range zooms, and the 80-400 in a slightly modified lowepro rezo 190 shoulder bag. lately i've been throwing the j1 in the bag for fun.

of all the lenses i use when shooting cities and landscapes, the 24mm pc-e is my absolute favorite.

The other reason I want to get rid of my 85mm is because I finally found a Vivitar Series 1 90mm f/2.5 macro. This is by far the sharpest lens I've ever seen. It was designed by Vivitar and manufactured by Tokina. Years later after Vivitar discontinued it, Tokina used the exact same optical formula in their own lens but changed the barrel to plastic. It's nicknamed the Bokina because of the excellent quality of its bokeh.

I took a few quick test shots tonight, can't wait to use this thing for real.

You can see how nice the transition to out of focus areas is in the photos above, but I didn't have any good bokeh opportunities readily available, so I just crumpled up a plastic bag and shone a light on it.

I am now the proud owner of my first external flash unit!

My Sony HVL-42AM came in the mail on Monday. I have a pic I will post soon. I have been having lots of fun working on bouncing the flash and using it wirelessly. Of course now I am going to need to buy some flash triggers to use it better without needing the pop up flash to trigger the external when it is not attached to the motor. I also got some plastic diffusers and a basic flash gel set for doing events. I also recently learned what a snoot is.

So, after about a month of waiting, I finally got my new Zeiss 25mm in the mail. Now, was it worth it? Maybe.... It lacks a certain sharpness that the 35mm had, and there are some odd distortion issues. I haven't really been able to test it out yet, but tomorrow I'll go about town and see what my lens can make. I'll post some pictures later on.

After being without a camera for over a year now, I decided to pick a new one up for some trips coming up. I bought a Nikon D5100. Not sure what additional gear I want to get quite yet (it came with the kit lens), but I will be doing a road trip throughout Sicily and will be taking plenty of landscape photos.

Get a wide-angle lens, Lipani. Definitely worth it, especially if you're going to be doing lots of landscapes! You got a great camera, the same one I've got, in fact!

The 5100 is really solid. You'll like it. You should get one of those 17-50 tamron like Aaron. Good travel lens.

Yeah, one reason I chose the D5100 is that it seemed like a good camera to 'grow into' so to speak.

It is! I have the D5000 (guessing they are pretty much similar, just different year model...someone correct me if I'm wrong), which has been really good for me so far. My dad got it for me about 2 years and said it would be good for me to learn on. I want to upgrade now, but its an excellent camera.

Small update on the gear list. Thanks to Mr. John I am now the owner of a Minolta Maxxum 28mm f2.8. Nice lens. Pretty sharp, especially at f4. Very happy with my $20 purchase!
