I drove by and noticed the crane is up. So she's officially under construction.

Are you certain that the crane is on the Onyx site and not the one at the candy factory beside it?

All the retail to the north along Main is shuttered, save for the Money Mart. I assumed that land was a part of the development. But it looks like it's not.

Isn't the old Burger King the sales centre for platinum condos?

Yep, it's not part of this project.

anyone know what happened to this one? Sales launched forever ago and nothing seems to have happened. I assume it's been cancelled?

Hopefully this gets built. Having this + 1655 Main Street West right beside it would be great for the area

Not sure why the thread says “under construction.” I go o by this everyday and there is absolutely no activity on site.

New zoning application here, it appears the condo is dead in exchange for a student rental building:

To amend the zoning to construct a ten storey purpose-built student residential bldg

It's needed to allow the houses around Mac to go back to single family dwellings, from the student housing it's evolved into.

Honestly I'm surprised there hasn't been more student housing built around Mac over the years. Most of the other universities in southern ontario have seen student housing booms around their campuses of some scale, if not all on the University of Waterloo level.

Looks like Society Developments owns this now and is proposing a student residence:

I wouldn't read into it too much... this has a 'preloaded Sketchup glass texture' vibe that won't make it very far into an actual design. I think it literally is what I described it as- The intern needs to at least make them opaque!

Yes its very sketchup-esque

Kinda wish they'd make the top of each "pillar" a bit more embellished.. instead of just the bare minimum geometric shapes look.
