Entheosfog in Europe: Mighty Barcelona (Part I)
Last September and October, I had the good fortune of venturing on a monumental European trip that saw me enter about six countries. I’m finally getting around to posting them on here, seven months after the fact. Better late than never, I guess.
My brother arranged this trip, with his wife and nephew and yours truly. The first two-thirds of my vacation I spent with them, mainly in Barcelona and Spain, then to Germany and a few other places. For the last half of my trip, I met up with my girlfriend in Paris and we spent a few days in London then she went on to her own trip in Scotland. We had our respective trips already planned when we met last spring, almost a year ago, and it was crazy luck that, with some minor tweaking, we were able to overlap our trips together.
This trip was very significant for me and my brother. I was born in Germany on a Canadian Forces base in Baden-Baden, Germany and moved with my family back to Canada at age two. So I recall nothing of being over there and this trip marked the first time I made it back out of North America and the first time I could actually see where I was born. My brother was back about ten years ago, when he lived in Barcelona for about six months. And he had been talking all the time ever since about how he wanted to take me not only to Germany but to Barcelona, which he has held near and dear to his heart since 2005.
Okay, so enough with the backstory, on to the photos. I will start with one of the many (and obvious) theme songs we had leading up to the trip:

I had about a 20-hour journey to Barcelona to meet up with my brother, sister-in-law and nephew. They had landed a day previous to me so everything was all settled in regards to our accommodations in Barcelona when I got there.
But before I get onto the Barcelona photos, there’s a few ‘getting to Barcelona’ pictures that I will show first.
This is my overseas meal that I actually didn’t mind too much. Maybe because I was still annoyed the plane didn’t have televisions for the flight…

Not a bad view to wake up to, although I will bring my own blanket next time:

In an effort to save costs when he was planning my journey to Barcelona, my brother had me fly into Manchester Airport, then fly to Barcelona out of Liverpool. It was up to me to find my own way from one city to the next. I decided to hire an Uber and this was my first taste of Europe outside of an airport. This also explains why it took so long to get to Spain for me:

After almost 20 hours of continuous travel time, I finally got into BCN.
I rendezvoused with my brother, sister in law and nephew at Plaça de Catalunya. We walked back through the busy streets to the flat we were staying in Raval. This was the first photo I took after getting off the Aerobus, and I was going through a little sensory overload at this point:

That night, and on very little sleep, we set out to catch some of the la Mercè festivities that were happening in the streets of Barcelona, which happened to be a Friday night, and very close to our flat:
