Nordstrom strikes in-home shopping deal with world’s tallest apartment building

by REW
November 23, 2020

Quote:
Luxury department store chain Nordstrom is partnering with Extell Development Company to bring its wares into the homes of residents of the world’s tallest apartment building.

The partnership will bring residents of Central Park Tower in-residence access to Nordstrom beauty and spa services, personal stylists to handle wardrobing in the home, advance access to new brands and collections, and priority access to invite-only style events.

Other perks include guaranteed reservations or in-residence dining for the six restaurants located within Nordstrom, which is situated at the base of the 1,550 ft. tower where closings are set to get under by the end of this year.

“The Nordstrom brand and collaboration will resonate with our buyers who are seeking a residence that is truly unlike any other,” said Joaquin F. Stearns, Senior Vice President, Development of Extell Development Company. “From your private living room to the world’s highest private residential club, we have carefully considered every element of your life at Central Park Tower and our partnership with Nordstrom is yet another point of distinction.”

“Central Park Tower is providing residents with an impressive array of amenities, and we think our Nordstrom flagship offerings will be right at the top of that list,” said Chris Wanlass, Nordstrom Vice President and General Manager for New York City. “We want residents to think of us as their fashion concierge. We will be offering exclusive service experiences centered around styling, beauty and food.”

I do not get it.

I hope it comes off better than it looks now.

It is a very uninteresting design and seems to just want to dominate the skyline without really contributing much beyond interrupting the flow -

like a very prominent off-key note in a composition.

The window cleaning rig that dominates the roof is unfortunate

This is has to be the slowest rising structure since the pyramids. I got married a few doors up from this thing four years ago and it was u/c (20+ floors high) then.

^ These days, all of the new skyscrapers in the city have it. You can even see it on One57 in the photo above.

Distance from the skyline always provides a better perspective of scale.

It blends in so well with the sky that sometimes it's almost invisible. This of course lessens its impact on the skyline.

One thing about removing the blue protective covering, the building reflects the sky - which is usually blue. But the skyline impact, for better or worse, is still there. The colors in that particular photo are off, but yes, it does reflect blueness.
