Steele Hotels Planning new Downtown Development

Good to hear this, although very early in the stages... Does anyone know what land they are referring to across from the Delta? I was also suprised to read in the article that Marriot has plans for the old Woolworths building, as that area there (including the hole in the group from the former Arcade building) is defiently an eye sore on the Water St. strip

This is great news for Saint John's. Although I have never even been to Newfoundland let alone Saint John's, I'm sure this will be a great addition to the city.

^ The land they are referring to is on Water Street, and I'm pretty sure it's an empty lot. A new hotel would be an improvement to the area assuming the design is good. I would expect more development in that area in the future as there is still some empty land & parking lots available. In the past three years there have been a few development proposals downtown, but none of them have been built yet, with the exception of the Delta extension and the Marriott addition. Everything else has been conversions of existing buildings or infill townhousing. Now, with a better ecomomic outlook, I expect that might change.

I'm going to attend that. I missed a charette about the harbour when I first got here. Will provide details. Let's hope the hotel will look like the Marriot... (which I heard was a firm from St. Pierre!) and NOT the Battery Hotel!!
