São Paulo, Brazil!

São Paulo, Brazil

São Paulo, is the largest city in Brazil, the largest city in the southern hemisphere and Americas, and the world's seventh largest city by population. The metropolis is anchor to the São Paulo metropolitan area, ranked as the second most populous metropolitan area in the Americas and among the five largest metropolitan areas on the planet.

After the abolition of slavery (1888), São Paulo received increasingly large numbers of European immigrants, most of them coming from Italy, followed by Portugal, Germany and Spain. In 1897, Italians are over half of the city's population. Portuguese, Spaniards, Germans, Japanese, Jews and Christian Syrian-Lebanese as well as Eastern-Europeans also came in significant numbers.

Gorgeous. Grey, and orange, and deep, deep green, with the warmth of the sun, the hum of traffic, and an omnipotent palm tree standing silently in awe.

The name Jardim Paulista is quite ironic, seeing as the district is a sea of concrete.

true, but Jardim Paulista is one of several neighborhoods named Jardins (for those who dont understand portuguese, Jardim means Garden) in the area... all administered by the subprefecture of Pinheiros (Pines)

The logical conclusion is that these names all predate the concrete sea... and just 50 years ago, there were mansions with huge gardens in the area.

Still, even now, most of the buildigns there are condos with vast areas and thus lots of greenery around.
