San Antonio looks enchanting... aside from that nasty sprawl. What kept the city from destroying all their old buildings in the 50s and 60s like every other American city?

The Spanish influence in the inner city is amazing. Too bad it's one of only two major cities in the state (El Paso is the other) where there's a lot of Spanish architecture.
