hkskyline's 2011 ALICANTE, SPAIN Photo Collection

Continuing my tour of Spain, Alicante is the capital of the Costa Blanca and a popular sun destination. In fact, the beach is just steps away from the city's historic attractions.

The Mercado Central is a covered market for locals, offering much choice from meats and seafood to fruits and vegetables.

Animal / Meat Products

Seafood - being right on the coast, there shouldn't be any shortage of these :

Fruits and Vegetables

I had questioned myself whether it was worth stopping in Alicante for a few days. This was the reason why I decided to keep it on my itinerary.

The Castillo de Santa Barbara is an amazing fortress perched on top of Alicante's city centre. To facilitate the visit, a long tunnel leads from the city to the elevator.

The views feel less special without the arduous walk though.

A number of interesting exhibitions reside the old fortress buildings.

Do modern-day bourgeois families have their own seals?

All that was just an introduction. The real wonder is this side of the fortress :

No regrets for coming here!

Strangely, I didn't hit the beaches here.
