Deutschlandhalle to be torn down in 2011

The building was built in 1935 for 10.000 people by Franz Orthmann & Fritz Wiemer.

Why will it be torn down, what'll replace it?

Schöneberger Linse copmletely fails to catch my imagination or feeling. IMO lacks density on the ground (a few taller ones don't make up for bad planning). What's there today?

Today there is nothing but an urban wasteland.

Another rendering:

There is a new stadium U/C for the ice hockey team near the Glockenturmstraße.

Normally the ICC would have been torn down too but nowadays there are 2 extensions planned.

So that's an anti-ad? Maybe my German is too crap, but from what I read I just love it! I guess it's a big difference in attitude between those nimbys and me.
/and that's how I was part of starting Yimby in Stockholm

Would be great if theyd take down that ugly addition to the Park Inn and then built a new building opposite to the Hines.

Thank god the bloody asbestos palace is nearly history.
People from the BVG should ask to built the U55 tunnel before the park is going to be built upon it.

I guess the U55 will run under the street doesnt it?
That would also mean that theyd have to chop the trees down on UdL

@ Grumpy,

they should also build a double tunnel for the planned U10 from donhofplatz/Jerusalemer strasse to the alex as this was future planning with the Rathaus to be an exchange station between the U5 and U10, they should build it before they start work on the Berlin palace!

It would be such an excellent opportunity to do so.
You are right but isn't there something else needed that is so hard to find in BLN : cash ?

Yes, the U5 is to go under the Under den Linden, a new station called Under den Linden is planned to be built in the middle of Friedrichstrasse/Under den Linden, so the trees would have to come down as the two exit/entry points to the station would I imagine, be built in the middle either side of Friedrichstrasse on the Under den Linden.

The plan also calls for the closure of Franzosisch strasse and the new station
Under den Linden to be an exchange station between the U5 and the U6 lines!

From wikipedia, Berlin U-bahn planning!

the whole MediaSpree-issue is much more complex than it seems.
the simple way:
the problem is, that the planned towers and midrises would make the rents EXPLODE as they did in other new developed areas.
And that would take place in districts which are actually known for their quite low rents.
So it´s just logical that the inhabitants do protest against the plans.
another issue is that such an area is not needed (yet). i am sure that most of the bureau-areas would not be rented for long since so many new office buildings are built in central Berlin. the same would happen to the flat and appartment buildings in my opinion. so people think that the money better should be spent on something more senseful.

the poster reads:

City restructuring at the Spree banks in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Mitte, Treptow:
Who wants MediaSpree?

Drown the MediaSpree!

! low rents instead of high profits !
! public parks instead of headquarters !
! parking areas instead of office buildings !
! alternative education and arts instead of commercials and consume !
! trees instead of billboards !
! free public transport instead of car-chaos !
