Macomb County sprawl, mostly. Albanians, Romanians and the remaining Italians are in Macomb.

Hamtramck has lots of immigrants, but mostly from Bangladesh.

Wow. Amazing list. New York really is a crossroads, isn't it?

I wandered over to some of the threads in the Midwest forum and the posters there seem to think that the popularity of New York is due to some type of combination of media conspiracy and publicity campaign. It is, ummm, how should I put this, hilarious. As if present New York is nothing more than the result of a brainwashing scam.

The truth is much simpler, the moths will flutter around the light that burns brightest.

There's no particular attraction of the Midwest of German immigrants or the small number of Scandinavian immigrants.

And yeah, the Eastern Bloc presence in Chicago is notable.
Does the American community survey distinguish between immigrant and permanent resident, Canadian census-style?

I suspect the numbers for NYC are raised by the high number of non-permanent residents like expats, who are only there temporarily, relative to immigrants.
