Walking down Chestnut street yesterday, I was amazed by the number of recently emptied buildings, especially in adjacent pairs and larger groups. We know that Pearl is planning something at 19th and Chestnut, and we know that the PHA is hoping to get their property redeveloped, but there is a lot more going on.

South Star Lofts

I have a friend that lives in 1352 so I should post some pictures of SouthStar. Let me just say though. I think it's the ugliest new building of the year. My god is it ugly.

1601 Washington Avenue received approval for the variance. Good to see some added density along Washington Avenue.

City Hall Park

Finally a structure is up. I have pictures, but don't have time to upload them yet. I pass by there everyday on my commute on the train so I'm happy to see something finally go up.

The Fire Works: coworking space launches in West Philly

"The owners of The Cedar Works had envisioned the space being used mostly by artists as studio space, and were surprised at the number of inquiries they got from people seeking fast internet and good coworkers instead," wrote Fire Works member Chad Ostrowski.
