Otherwise this tower will be a nice addition to the skyline. The crown if lit, will be simple but nice.
That's more of a personal preference in my opinion. I have lived in other cities on higher floors, with both "inside" and "hanging" balconies, and for me personally, I'd much rather have a protruding balcony that something inward that takes away from my interior/livable square footage. The way most modern residential buildings are designed these days, it makes you feel like you're in a phone booth if it's inward facing.
(Google "pay phone booth" for anyone younger than 35 )

As far as exterior architecture goes, there's really a very limited band of designs you can do with tall residential towers to make them both visually interesting to everyone else looking at them from the outside, and for the end users who actually pays for the units. The people who buy-in want a balcony (more often than not), and that makes it difficult to break out of the traditional form factors and boxyness without adding prohibitive costs. Everybody wants their cut during a building's lifecycle, and boring, glass boxes maximize value on all sides.

Maybe someday soon we'll start getting the NYC, Chicago, Miami residential star-chitecture towers where hot international money gets parked, but for now this is what we got.

The start date for this project has moved around quite a bit. But according to this ABJ article, it could start in October.

This may be a new rendering:

This appears to be a slightly better quality (and larger) rendering than the ones previously posted from this angle. It's from the source code on the 44 East website.

Here's the same image - more monitor friendly.

I like the building and location, I'm just not digging the re-purposed shipping container on the roof posing as a crown.

I like how the Fairmont spire was Photoshopped away. The 44 East developers don't want their potential residents to think it will be part of their views.

I wish the Fairmont was a bit more taller and slender. And at the end of the day I won't mind the spire as much with other projects U/C or in the pipeline nearby and overall to divert my attention from the Fairmont spire.

That being said, can't real estate agents get into murky or troubled waters if some buyers notice the deception with the spire being photoshopped, lest it somehow becomes a deal breaker (I don't see why it should be, but just the principle of the rendering and the suggestion to prospective buyers?

Check out this one of 90 Rainey. It seems no one wants to give the fairmont's spire any respect!

I'd like to see a surface level view from the I-35 bridge. This thing is going to be hella impressive as you drive north into DT.

This is the best "surface level "rendering"" you're going to get from me, but I might as well show it:

And yes, I know these are from the Frontage Road. I screwed up the streetview while making the "renders"

Woah, that is going look incredible. It will be a wall of skyscrapers along that section of I35.

This has been said many times on this forum, but man this is a truly exciting time to live in Austin. Bring it on.

This is becoming slightly off-topic, but I believe you're looking at instagram posts -- which are permanently on their page until deletion. Whereas these are instagram "stories." Like snapchat, instagram stories delete automatically after 24 hours, so it can't be accessed anymore (save for by the account holder or instagram themselves).

So that's why they're not here any more.

Correct these are stories. You'll see stories from users you follow at the top of the insta app/page.

Rainey/East Ave is shaping up to be Austin's Yaletown (Vancouver).

Thankfully it's not near as architecturally and visually bland.

OK, thanks. I don't follow anyone, and never noticed "stories". Those models are pretty cool. I guess that's the 44 East sales center in the photos?
