I see a bunch of workers walking around on the Macy's rooftop. I wonder if they are going to start the facade construction soon

Wait what? I've read every article about the arena and I've never been able to confirm anything about Macys redoing the façade. That's great news if so, but they also need a gut job, new bathrooms and a rooftop café overlooking the new square.

There was an article about the condo/hotel tower breaking ground in the next 4-6 weeks...that was 7 weeks ago. The Kings spokesperson said they were still trying to finish off financing for the building.

Anyone have more info on this? Has construction started yet?

Kimpton recently sold most of its SF properties to Intercontinental Hotels, which bought Kimpton. The Sacramento Kimpton should've started construction by now. Maybe the delay has to do with the shakeup in management.

You haven't seen the renderings?

If they are making an addition and adding windows they sure as hell better give it a new exterior

I think the delay is because the city hasn't sold their bonds yet. The Kings will default soon if they can't tie financing by Sept 1. So no doubt this delay has affected the hotel

They're adding solar panels, and also repairing the roof. They had pretty bad leaks this winter.

They just completely replaced the roofing material last year. So hopefully that contractor is fixing the roof under warranty. I noticed while looking at the arena webcams, there was a lot of standing water on the roof after it rained. I thought that didn't look too good.

Solar panels are a great add for them. That big empty roof space can hold a lot of panels.

The city of Sacramento wrapped up the first phase of its financing for the new Kings arena Thursday, completing a short-term $299 million bond sale.

Per Ben van der Meer via Twitter last night, "Late night prediction: work on the mixed-use tower opposite @Golden1Center will start this week. Well-informed speculation..."

Take from that what you will.

I noticed some equipment showed up today on the deck over the 5th street underpass. It's been vacant up there for months.

Nothing in the hotel area though.
