Grand Central Market to launch later hours and happy hour with boozy ice cream

You'll soon be able to sip a beer at Grand Central Market well after dinnertime. Beginning June 3, the market will be open until 10 p.m. every day, and many of the vendors plan to offer in-the-evening-only specials.

Check Out the New Airy, Open Look of Downtown's 'The Bloc'

The formerly fortressy Macy’s shopping plaza officially reopened Thursday as The Bloc, an open-air reboot of the retail hub that was famous for being almost hermetically sealed off from the surrounding streets and sidewalks.

Shops will be rolling out throughout the summer and the fall, as work on storefronts is completed. Eventually, tenants will include the highly anticipated artsy Alamo Drafthouse and hip stores aplenty. (The complex’s signature Macy’s is currently open, as is the Sheraton Hotel, which got an Art Deco-inspired makeover last year.)

And shoppers will get to skip waiting at the crosswalk to go from the Bloc to the Seventh/Metro Center station across the street, because there’s going to be a pedestrian tunnel from the shops to the rail station.

Here’s South Park’s newest towering hotel, Fig+Pico

Announced earlier this year, the hotel would have two towers—one with 28 stories and another with 40 stories—but be operated by three hotel brands. The two towers will have a combined 1,100 rooms and a total of three pools, plus bars and restaurants. They would also have 20,000 square feet of retail space and six levels of parking.

The two-towers will replace a parking lot and two restaurants, Hooters and El Compadre, on the site right now. The New York-based real estate investor and developer Lightstone recently submitted plans for the Gensler-designed project to the city.

34-Story Broadway Tower Scheduled for October Groundbreaking

The property, located at the intersection of 4th Street and Broadway, is slated for a 34-story high-rise building which would feature 450 residential units and approximately 7,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. A groundbreaking for the proposed tower is scheduled for October 2016, with completion expected by 2020.

The project site - currently home to a one-story commercial complex - was entitled for development by prominent Downtown landlord Izek Shomof. Shomof sold the property to SCG in late 2015.

Proposed DTLA Tower Receives Key Approval
Trammell Crow Residential bringing modern tower to Hill Street.

Last week, developer Trammell Crow Residential received welcome news from the Los Angeles Department of City Planning (LADCP), which has approved the Texas-based company's proposal to build a residential tower in Downtown's Historic Core.

The project, known as the Alexan, would replace a surface parking lot at 9th and Hill Streets with a 27-story building featuring 305 residential units above approximately 6,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Plans also call for a landscaped roof deck, a swimming pool and a fitness center.

Designed by CallisonRTKL, the 320-foot tower would use columns and window lines to mimic the horizontal alignment of nearby historic buildings such as the Broadway Trade Center. A portion of its above-grade parking garage would be masked from view metal screens, concrete and two-story townhouse units.
