Off topic but do all metro New Yorkers refer to the LIRR phonetically as "El-Eye-Double-Are" or do some say "El-Eye-Are-Are" ? I've always been curious about this.

Rail branch is on track
Metro-North line to Waterbury to get promised upgrades

Monday, April 11, 2016 1:05 AM EDT
BY ANDREW LARSON REPUBLICAN-AMERICAN

WATERBURY — Projects to bring the Waterbury Branch of Metro-North up to current standards for passenger railroads are moving forward, and the branch is on track to meet the Federal Railroad Administration's deadline.

"Let me be clear, the Waterbury Branch is not getting shut down and is under no threat of getting shut down," said Kevin Nursick, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.

Thanks for taking the time to post the two recent links to videos of the fire.
But is it asking too much, for those of us who dislike wasting our time watching videos, to include some text stating where the fire occured, or post a link to a text story about the fire?
At least add your own comments so we can have something to discuss. I would like to respond, but just posting a link to a video leaves me nothing to respond to.

Looks like the state might be talking the adjacent Maritime Aquarium IMAX theater as part of the Walk bridge replacement process.

Train Crashes at Hoboken Station.

A huge train accident occurred today when a NJ Transit commuter train crashed at the end of the platform at Hoboken Terminal. Unfortunately, there was reported a woman dead and more than 100 injured. It also caused a lot of damage to the station. As unfortunate the dead of that woman was, is almost a miracle no more people was killed given tha size of the crash.

Hoboken crash: Governors of NJ, NY working together again

Quote:
“What that’s done for our relationship and for the relationships of our staffs has been – these folks know how to deal with a crisis,” he said.

Christie pointed out the first call he got about the train accident after he was informed of it by members of his inner staff was from Cuomo, a Democrat, who cancelled a planned trip to Israel to help manage the crisis.

“I do not remember a time in the history of the state when you’ve had a better and more tested relationship between the governor of New York and the governor of New Jersey and their respective staffs,” said Christie. “So when we say we’re going to get this up and running as quickly as possible, people have a track record to watch from Irene, from Sandy and from terrorist attacks.”

Christie said the people of New Jersey and New York have also been battle tested and he saluted their bravery and spirit.

Christie and Cuomo are the best pals I've ever seen.

That would look all the more better without the third world overhead lines everywhere.

Overhead electric lines are standard on commuter rail systems throughout the world. If you go to Tokyo, Paris, wherever, electrical commuter rail service almost always involves overhead lines.

Metro North and LIRR are very unusual in that they use subway-style third rail for the bulk of their operations.
