so far don't see the poem etching from this vantage point, but maybe it will only be on the 'back' now

They've opened up the sidewalk so now you can get up-close (inside the lobby it's mostly scaffolding)...

From Tech Crunch; the lobby at the connector to the park is a cool idea.

Facebook is officially confirming its San Francisco plans with an announcement that it has leased four floors at 181 Fremont in San Francisco. It will initially house its under-200 person Creation & Communication team, which builds for Stories, Direct, Live and more, but plans to expand its San Francisco headcount in time.

Today, Instagram confirms its lobby will be on the 7th floor of the Fremont building and will be connected to the TransBay Transit Center City Park.

Employees started moving in on May 7th, but that transition remains in progress. It’s also still putting the finishing touches on the space, but shared a few photos (see above and below) of what the space looks like today.

Instagram notes it has just under 200 employees in the Fremont office at present, but it expects that number to grow over the course of the year. It also has around 200 in New York, and 400 at its main office in Menlo Park.

“We have space to grow the team and plan to do so considerably this year,” an Instagram spokesperson said.

The company declined to share details like square footage or the cost of the lease at this time.

However, real estate data firm the CoStar Group told the San Francisco Chronicle that Facebook signed a lease for 432,000 square feet of office space in the tower, which could house around 2,000 employees.

“This is not a pilot,” the spokesperson acknowledged, referencing the claims that it’s a way for the company to “test” out having San Francisco office space.

“Instagram is officially establishing a presence in San Francisco and growing the team on-the-ground here,” they said.

Four floors or the whole office space part of the building? Was the original report wrong?

Maybe both.

They leased the whole building and are going to sub-lease large parts of it to other companies.

I can't think of a place in the country that would be as awesome a place to work than 181 Fremont (if you can afford one of the apartments and can take a quick elevator ride to work, that is).

No. I don't understand the business about 4 floors but this from the current issue of the BizTimes:

Facebook signs San Francisco's biggest office lease deal ever
By Roland Li – Reporter, San Francisco Business Times
May 21, 2018, 6:48am PDT Updated 9 hours ago

Facebook Inc. signed the biggest San Francisco office lease deal in history, taking all 755,900 square feet in Park Tower.

Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) now has 1.18 million square feet in San Francisco, making it the city's third-largest tech tenant in just eight months. Last year, it leased 436,000 square feet at Jay Paul Co.'s 181 Fremont, which is two blocks from Park Tower. It also has giant growth plans in its headquarters in Menlo Park and elsewhere in Silicon Valley.

"We look forward to joining the San Francisco community as we gradually grow into MetLife Investment Management's Park Tower. This new space will support our growing workforce as we continue to attract strong talent," said John Tenanes, vice president of global facilities and real estate, in a statement.

The massive lease at 250 Howard St. surpasses Dropbox Inc. (NASDAQ: DBX)'s 736,000-square-foot lease last year for all of Kilroy Realty Corp.'s the Exchange. It's also larger than Salesforce.com Inc. (NYSE: CRM)'s 714,000-square-foot lease in 2014 at Salesforce Tower, which was later amended to over 860,000 square feet . . . .

Well, there's {{ahem! Cough, cough}} Trump Tower. The T-man lives there and also has his NY offices there.

Basically there are lots of mixed use towers around the country these days. I live in a mixed use midrise.
