I used to live right in the vicinity and I liked walking through them. And now that the creator of this installation just died last week, I'm pretty sure this is not going anywhere now

Across the street from me. On the left you can see the street blocked by a goose-neck truck delivering a container for the 676 N Lasalle project, and the tubes for the caissons. That project will connect to the gutted building in the middle - which will also extend up two more floors.

Then on the right is the 15-story 675 N Wells building where they're starting to dig for the foundation. Above that are the new 640 N Wells and 635 N Wells towers still being finished up. It's noisy.

Watched "The Boss" with Melissa McCarthy this weekend and the aerial shots of Chicago are pretty amazing. If you haven't seen it, it's worth checking out just for the skyscraper porn.

590 West Madison

The parking lot at 590 West Madison has been closed for many many months as they built the still private pocket park on the north end of the lot. Even after the park was finished last year, the parking lot has remained closed.

I've been keeping an eye out for any kind of change. Unfortunately, yesterday brought the wrong kind of change, as it has been tarred and re-painted for parking spots. Sigh.

The building will have an extended stay component. Maybe it also applies to construction.

Went to the community meeting for the West Loop proposal for 166 Aberdeen.

Talk about shit show of NIMBYISM. It's too tall and out of context apparently.

And they got mad I called them NIMBYS, as if I could give two fucks about that.

Curbed and DNAInfo were there, so I'm sure you'll see the renderings later. The current design isn't too bad.

-236 units
-84 parking spaces
-20 story mixed-use
-5,000 sq ft of retail
-SCB Architects
-outside the historic fulton market area
-alley widened by 6’ for maneuvering
-tower would step in 5' from the podium
-2 floors of parking
-parking screened by active space
-217’ 4” (which didn't include the mechanical penthouse)
-13 units per floor

I didn't feel like editing so.....
