Love the different vibes that make up the sum of Montreal. Geographically speaking the islands in the St Lawrence are not only a great natural location for a city but the dense urban center on an island(s) is New Yorkish. While certainly a Laurentien city its location on the St Lawrence at the point where the river starts taking on littoral characteristics. This makes the city the Atlantic facing front door of the greater Great Lakes / St Lawrence community of cities.
If we’re using a home or estate analogy Quebec is the guard house or beautiful rod iron gates worthy of mention but was built and served defensively in nature in a very defining way.
Ascetically there is something very European for a major North American city while having significant presence of major art deco buildings & competing French & Anglo Canadian historical heritage.
Truly one of the great gems of North America historically, culturally, ascetically & as a role model city.
