Here is a bit more info on the planned High Performance Computing Center tower.

C&W RELEASES RFQ FOR 600K SF GA TECH TOWER

Quote:
Cushman & Wakefield released an RFQ seeking developers to help Tech expand Technology Square and develop the High Performance Computing Center. The mixed-use tower will include in excess of 600k SF of office space, half of which will be leased by Georgia Tech, and another 100k SF that is under LOI with an unidentified tech company, according to RFQ documents here.

“Details of these industry partners and their level of commitment will be disclosed to the finalists during the advanced stages of the RFP phase,” officials state in documents.

I just glanced through the RFQ. Can we assume this will not start construction this year? Also, will the winning developer be proposing their own design or is that something GA Tech is providing?

In earlier documents, Tech did indicate the intention to begin construction in 2015. At this point however, its appears unlikely to start this year. The RFQ/RFP process may take several months and then the project will have to go through permitting.

The developers that qualify may add some unique elements to Tech's requirements but I think the basic parameters of the project have been set by GT.

Alta at the Park to be condos and could break ground this summer

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/p...the-condo.html

Quote:
The first high-rise condo tower in more than five years could break ground this summer in Atlanta, another strong indication demand is returning for new intown units.

Atlanta-based Wood Partners LLC is considering a 198-unit project overlooking Midtown's Piedmont Park.

"We are building condo product," Wood Partners' Bennett Sands told a group of Midtown residents during a Jan. 20 presentation of the mixed-use project called Alta on the Park.

Middle Midtown

This picture reminded me of the article a few weeks ago about 7 towers that are in various stages of development in and around Tech Square south of 10th Street. This picture illustrates how the mid section of Midtown is really beginning to fill in (assuming most of these projects get built), with those 7 towers and a few other developments in the area.
  1. Square on 5th
  2. University House
  3. Modera Midtown
  4. NCR Headquarters
  5. Georgia Tech HPCC
  6. 33 Peachtree Place
  7. 880 West Peachtree
  8. 782 Peacthree
  9. Seventh Midtown
  10. Eviva Peachtree
  11. Broadstone Terraces

The last cycle (Atlantic Station, Midtown Mile, etc.) produced a lot of infill in a few spots, but it was kind of a false start... I think this one is proving to be transformative. It will give Midtown a real sense of place and make the blight much less apparent, which will boost demand even more. I think we're finally hitting critical mass.

I don't think I'd seen this figure of MARTA's proposed Avondale Estates TOD. I'm sure it's probably just a massing/design mock-up, but it would be great if they actually build something like this.

I thought that was the old rendering. I like the newer one better.

I understand RIB has formed a strategic alliance with Tech, but where besides the Atlanta Business Chronicle is this North American relocation being reported? I hope it is indeed correct but would like to see some confirmation.

First look at Scott Smith’s big plan for Underground Atlanta

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/p...derground.html

Quote:
The prospective buyer of Underground Atlanta envisions developing about 1,000 new residential units as part of his firm's redevelopment plans — including a new high-rise residential tower on Peachtree Street.

T. Scott Smith, CEO of WRS Inc., which has a contract to buy the 12 acres from the city of Atlanta for $25.75 million, has submitted the preliminary site plan of the project to the city. Smith said when completed, WRS and its development partners will invest between $150 million to $200 million to redevelop Underground.

Will 2015 be the busiest year of construction Ever in Midtown?

Its starting to look like it could be.

  • Square on 5th : Under Construction
  • University House : Under Construction
  • 60 11th Street : Under Construction
  • 33 Peachtree Place : Under Construction
  • 782 Peachtree : Under Construction
  • Seventh Midtown : Under Construction
  • One Museum Place : Under Construction

  • Atlantic House : Q1 Construction start
  • Yoo on the Park : Groundbreaking Feb 18
  • Amli Arts Center : Filed permits 12/09/2014 ... Possible Construction - March
  • Post Millenium : Filed permits 1/12/2015 ... Possible Construction - April
  • Modera Midtown : Filed permits 1/22/2015 ... Possible Construction - April
  • Broadstone Terraces : Filed permits 1/29/2015 ... Possible Construction - May
  • 1010 West Peachtree : Filed permits 1/30/2015... Possible Construction - May
  • Alta at the Park : Possible Construction - Summer

It seems to typically take about 3 months to get land disturbance permits to start construction so I projected the earliest some of these projects could break ground.

On the down side Eviva Peachtree seems to have stalled in permitting since they first filed some permits back in April of last year. Does anyone have an idea what the issue could be?

When I drove by this morning, it looked like they were moving dirt at Modera, but I'm not sure...
