Like he says, Mile-End is a great place to live in, but there's nothing so special about it, especially for a tourist. If I were you I would have kept walking up on Park avenue so you would eventually end up in Parc Extension, one great ethnic neighbourhood. (95% of the population is immigrant, one of the highest rates in the world, with over 150 nationalities, ) This place is also called "Little India". And then across L'Acadie blvd you end up in Town of Mount Royal, the first planned suburb in Canada with old mansions from the 1890's. The contrast in stunning!

With a lovely fence and lockable gates (put up by the Town of Mount Royal) between the two!
