Ok I am game. How many square meters is the space that is being contemplated when all is said and done, assuming there is a tenant?

^ If you want to carry that to its logical conclusion, than those who contribute more taxes have more rights, more access to social services, and more access to democracy.

We're citizens and human beings, not just taxpayers.

I don't have to carry it there. It's already there.

So spent the last two lunch hours at Taste of Edmonton, had the usual fare and it was a fun experience. Pretty much same-old same-old, The only noteworthy entry for me was Sandwich & Sons with the Mtl smoked meat sandwich. I'll be walking over to 4th to get more of that

news re: Woody's
http://edmontonjournal.com/news/loca...es-in-business

Quote:
Woody’s Video Bar is closing its doors Sunday, after serving as a welcoming space for the Edmonton LGBTQ community for 16 years.

“It’s been a home for so many people, and for a lot of people coming out it was a safe space and a place for gatherings for some time,” said Lisa Robinson, former manager at Woody’s Video Bar and future owner of Mama’s Gin Joint, which will open in its place and carry on the bar’s legacy.

Longtime bar owner Jim Brown has decided to retire after 23 years in the Edmonton gay bar business, first opening Boystown in 1991, then Buddys Nite Club in 1999.
Quote:
Robinson — who worked as a manager of Woody’s for a year and at Buddys for another two — plans on continuing Brown’s legacy by reopening and rebranding the bar as Mama’s Gin Joint, an inclusive 1920s-style speakeasy.

“My bar is my living room, and everyone is welcome in Mama’s living room,” Robinson said.

Robinson hopes to rebrand the bar as a place inclusive of the modern LGBTQ community, where people of all sexual identities beyond just straight, gay, lesbian and bisexual can feel safe in expressing themselves.
Quote:
Mama’s Gin Joint will open at 11723 Jasper Ave. on Aug. 5, but not before two days of farewell celebrations for Brown.

The official farewell party starts on Friday at 9 p.m. featuring well-known performers from Edmonton’s drag community.

Best of luck to her. The last big tent bar didn't go over very well, it's a tough audience to please

Jim Brown ran that place into the ground

^ Good to see, I will stop tipping once the minimum wage is $15 for servers (or maybe even sooner).

Haha, I don't mind Earl's but if they automatically add the tip to my bill, they won't see me ever step foot in it again.

Early supper at Taste of Edmonton.
I went mainly to hit up more food trucks and to go to places I missed last weekend. I managed to beat the crowds and lineups, which were building up by the time I was leaving.

Pampa - Garlic Rumpsteak on Focaccia - 5/5
I see why this place always has long lineups. So good!

Explore India food truck - Chicken Biriyani - 2.5/5
It's OK, but I've had much better

Smokehouse BBQ food truck - Bacon Bomb - 2.5/5
Not bad, but such a pittance of a serving for 4 frigging tickets!

La Mer food truck - Shrimp Tostadas - 4/5
La Mer food truck - Fish Taco - 4/5
Both are on equal footing.

Packrat Louis - Mac & Cheese with Bacon - 4/5
A favorite from prior years - they claim it's a new menu item, but in reality it has changed hands from Select (same owners IIRC)

Canadian Brewhouse - Steak Bites - 3.5/5
Another old favorite, loses marks for sauce that was more runny than before

Japanese Village - Sirloin Beef on Rice - 4/5
Tried this for the first time. Delicious!

Italian Bakery - Tiramisu in a Cup - 4/5
Best dessert in my humble opinion

Good break down.

You seem Happy about your overall experience. But most food we have had there is generic and not that great.

Not that appetizing, And Lines are for the sheep. Baaaaaa.

The luster has worn off. Just like Heritage days. No spark for both. Just same ole same ole.

Ditto. No Heritage Days, no Taste of E, and no K-Days for that matter - all of them we have lost interest in. Same food, same entertainment. That leave us with smaller festivals (e.g. Italian, Caribbean), markets all over the Edmonton region, entertainment venues and we have been exploring our parks with long walks and some picnics.

Despite my misgivings about same-old same-old, I ended up going to the Heritage Festival within an hour of opening. The lure of delicious food, beautiful women and warm weather was hard to resist!

Ecuador - Pan con Carne - 5/5
Anyone who puts cilantro in a beef sammich is alright in my book!

Eritrea - combo (Tzebhi Zigni & Timtmo on injera) - 5/5
Very flavorful with a nice spicy kick. That's precisely what I expect from these pavilions (and the issue I have with many of them) - to not honkify their food.

Arab - Shish Kabob 3/5
Good, albeit nothing to really distinguish it from all the other meat-on-sticks

Cambodia - lemongrass chicken curry 3/5
It was OK, nothing to write home about

Vietnam - iced coffee 5/5
Always goes down great on a hot day

Croatia - Cevapi 4/5
delicious, but only managed to eat half of it - I had to chuck it when the storm rolled in and it was time to depart

After the rain stopped, decided to wander over to Taste of Edmonton one last time because of the special "3rd dish" day. The place was almost dead thanks to the weather. Most people were there to watch the bands. But no food lineups so that was OK, but the vendors obviously didn't look happy.

Spice Rickshaw - pork chop vindaloo 5/5
Awesome! I think I will be hunting down this food truck from now on!

3 Amigos - al pastor 4/5
Not quite as good as Tres Carnales' al pastor from what I remember, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Pampa - bacon wrapped chicken thighs 5/5
These guys draw a crowd for a reason.

Sutton - chocolate shooter 4/5
Even though it costs just 2 tickets it is still pricey - but I love chocolate so what the hell!

Italian Bakery - Tiramasu in a Cup 4/5
My one lone repeat from prior days

We had an impromptu gathering at the house yesterday evening, and decided to order up a big spread from the new Dixie Lee via Skip the Dishes.

Friends from back east rave about this stuff and oh man I can see why. Delicious.
