Celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday in Edmonton by joining in on some of the many fun family events taking place around the city. End the day by watching the spectacular Canada Day fireworks finale in the river valley.
Canada Day Fireworks Finale
Time: 11pm
Enjoy the magnificent fireworks display over Edmonton’s river valley parks and the North Saskatchewan River.

Edmonton Ballpark - Those attending the Edmonton Prospects vs the Regina Red Sox game on July 1 are welcome to remain in their seats at the Edmonton Ballpark to watch the fireworks.
Note: No viewing is available from Kinsmen Park.

109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive & the High Level Bridge)
Access is restricted in Kinsmen Park, and to the High Level & Menzies Bridges after road closure are in effect. Kinsmen playground and picnic area are closed on Canada Day.
Road Closures for Fireworks Finale
Expect traffic delays two hours before the fireworks and 90 minutes after the show. Please be patient and courteous to help to make the trip home from the fireworks safe for everyone. For road closure details see the Current Traffic Disruptions map.
Event Parking
Usual restrictions and increased parking bans will be in effect. The installation no parking signs and no stopping signs will begin early on July 1st to ensure that these lanes are clear of vehicles during peak traffic times. With minimal parking in the area of many venues, Edmontonians are encouraged to take the bus or LRT. Vehicles illegally parked will be tagged and towed.
City Hall Canada Day Celebration
Time: Noon-4pm
Celebrate our nation's birthday with free Canada Day activities at City Hall. The fun kicks off with a Canada Day ceremony in the City Room, followed by live music and dancing, kids' crafts, City Hall tours, displays, give-aways and more. Free family fun for all ages!
Canada Day at the Edmonton Valley Zoo
Time: 11am-4pm
Cost: Regular Admission
Celebrate Canada Day and the Edmonton Valley Zoo’s 57th birthday! Visit the Canadian animals, eat a red and white cupcake, and enjoy a wonderful mix of family activities and entertainment. Help us celebrate Lucy the elephant's 41st birthday!
Canada Day at the Muttart Conservatory
Time: 10am-2pm
Cost: Regular Admission
Celebrate our nation’s 149th birthday with a visit to the Muttart Conservatory. Enjoy live music, Canada Day crafts and face painting. Visit the Muttart's own maple tree in the temperate pyramids. Treats and fun activities will be available throughout the day – a fun event for the whole family!
Dominion Day at Fort Edmonton Park
Time: 10am-5pm
It’s the 149th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada! Celebrate the traditional Edmonton way: watch an authentic parade, toast to the Queen, sing Happy Birthday, and take part in other royal activities. Avoid the line ups; visit Fort Edmonton Park to buy your tickets online.
Cool Off on Canada Day
Spend time soaking up the summer at a City of Edmonton outdoor pool or visit a recreation centre. Regular admission rates apply. For holiday hours, visit Recreation Centres. Or splash away the day at one of the City’s free Water Play Features (spray parks).
The Works Art & Design Festival at City Hall
Time: Noon-4pm
Join The Works Art & Design Festival at City Hall. Express your Canadian pride at the free kids' arts crafts workshop in the north breezeway of City Hall.
Mill Woods Celebrates Canada Day
Time: 1-11pm
Come to Mill Woods Park (66 Street & 23 Avenue) and join in on the free family activities including hay rides, a petting zoo, carnival games, live music and more! Children's activities from 1-6pm. Main stage entertainment begins at 3pm. Fireworks display takes place at 11pm. For road closure details, see the Current Traffic Disruptions map.
Chinatown Night Market
Time: 4-9pm
Celebrate Canada Day in front of Wong's Benevolent Association (96 Street, between 102 and 103 Avenues) with cultural performances, craft and trinket sales and food trucks. (Please note that 96 Street will be closed to vehicles between Jasper Avenue and 103A Avenue.) Visit the Chinatown Night Market website for details.
Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature
Time: 10am-7pm
Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature is a celebration that honours Alberta's history and diversity with entertainment and activities for all ages. Enjoy some of the best local Alberta talent in music and dance along with roving performers and interesting exhibits throughout the grounds, the plaza and in the Edmonton Federal Building. (Please note that 107 Street south from 99 Avenue to the Royal Glenora Club will be closed to vehicles from 4am on July 1 to 2am on July 2.)
Celebrate Canada Day at the Art Gallery of Alberta
Time: 11am-5pm
Celebrate Canada Day at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Free admission. Bring the whole family for art activities and a chance to view some exciting exhibitions. Last admission will be at 4:30pm.
ETS Canada Day Service
As there's a lot going on this Canada Day, Edmonton Transit riders are reminded to allow plenty of time to get where you're going.
On Friday July 1, all ETS bus routes and LRT will operate on their regular Sunday schedules throughout the day. Regular Transit fares apply. Find out when the next bus is coming using a mobile device and the ETS Live® real time tools available from takeETS.com or call 311.
Late Night Owl Service will be available until 3am on routes 1, 4, 8, 9 and 512. Late Night Owl Service schedules are available at takeETS.com/owl.
Extra service from Transit centres at West Edmonton Mall (Route 1), Eaux Claires/Northgate (Route 9), Mill Woods (Route 8), Westmount (Route 5) and Southgate (Route 9) will start at approximately 8pm to provide service before the fireworks. Following the fireworks, buses will depart from the Downtown, Southgate and Coliseum areas.
Routes 9 and 52 will be on detour during the closure of Walterdale Hill, Queen Elizabeth Park Road and the High Level Bridge. Detour routing can be found at TakeETS.com.
Extra LRT service will start on the Capital Line at 6pm. Metro Line trains will run every 15 minutes from NAIT to Health Sciences Station. Some passengers may need to transfer trains to reach their destination.
Please note: Depending on wind and weather conditions, LRT service over the Menzies Bridge (between University and Grandin Stations) may be suspended starting at approximately 10:45pm for the fireworks. The bridge could remain closed for up to 60 minutes. While the bridge is closed, trains will continue to operate between Century Park and University Stations on the south side of the river, and between Grandin and Clareview Stations on the north side of the river. If you need to cross the river, please be aware of the potential for delay and adjust your travel plans accordingly.
To help to keep the LRT moving on time, please stand clear of the doors and allow people to disembark before boarding.
DATS Service
The DATS Booking Office is closed on statutory holidays. All subscription bookings for July 1 will be cancelled. If you need assistance while the DATS Client Service Centre is closed, please call DATS at 780-496-4567, and select option 1.
The ETS Customer Services Centre, including Lost & Found, is closed on statutory holidays.

Fireworks Safety
If you are buying or using fireworks in Edmonton this Canada Day, be safe and make sure you have a permit to use them. Before you use fireworks, always check to see whether there is a fire ban in effect. For more information contact the Fire Prevention Office at 780-496-3628.
