2015 Census will be starting up soon. This year will have an online option, which I'm hoping will help speed up results. There will still be door to door action, but if enough people do it online, it should reduce the amount of doors that need to be knocked on. Maybe going forward we can get the results quicker?

That would be nice.

Well, considering what we know now about the employment data and what banks are saying about our (still high according to them) population growth, what are your guys' revised estimates for the result this year? Mine was already fairly optimistic at 25 - 30 000, so I'll keep it at a firm 28 000.

I'm going to go with 25K this year, which would still be pretty damn good. I wouldn't be surprised if we grew by 30K

Looks about right!

Has anyone done their census online? I can't find the letter from the city with my code.

Did ours over the weekend. Took about a minute total. Got the letter two or three weeks ago.

I did ours last week. Very easy. I hope there is a really good participation rate for this. Is there another way to get your code, like by calling 311?

Did mine last week as well. Way too easy, all forms of government should look to doing it this way.

That would be a growth of only 32 000 for the metro area since the last official federal estimate. That would be disappointing, but I guess not entirely unexpected.

Our employment numbers and migration are all still looking excellent so hopefully the real numbers from Statcan are a bit better. Here's an article about the differences between Alberta and Calgary as far as the economic woes/boom go...

Alberta loses 14,000 jobs in February but Calgary gains 2,100

City of Calgary is predicting a municipal growth of 33,700 for 2014-2015 to a population of 1,228,900

Seems a bit aggressive forecasting 30,000 per year city proper growth for the next few years through the downturn? At this rate we're not that far off the 1.5M city proper milestone.

The Calgary Economic Region is now at 1.57M after what looks to be multiple years of 50,000+ growth per year. Pretty impressive.

Maybe they are just late with some households. I thought I was the only one.

It does seem kind of aggressive, but 33k this year is about right. I would say closer to 20-25K the next couple of years for the city proper.

Okay...so I called the city (Phone: (403) 476-4100- Option 3) seeing as I hadn't seen a code in the mail, and they just gave me one over the phone. Took 2 seconds to do.....nice and easy.

Not bad at all. 33 000 would put us over 1 230 000 in the city. With the slowdown, we'll probably only be at about 1 350 000 by 2020.
