Not surprised. I haven't touched the game since i posted those pics above. I estimate I spent about $1 / hour on this game in total...excluding the hours it didn't work.

Only way I'd start playing again is if they created larger maps. But I doubt EA cares. They got my money and I bet they are happy I don't play it anymore. Less burden on their servers.

I don't understand, can't we just mod larger maps?

People can mod anything with video games these days.

There are people over at Simtropolis who are working on the modding ... but it's far from perfect (or was the last update I saw). It's not necessarily about making bigger maps, rather removing the barrier that blocks you from moving beyond your map.

Probably because the game is so hard wired to prevent tampering. See Sc4 enjoyed the free ride of unlimited content created by users. EA also likely saw the expansion potential with dollar signs. Any free mod could (or would) outdo any DLC that EA puts out.

If any sloppy modding is done, the game is disabled. Repeated attempts could result in termination of your origin account making the game unplayable.

Modding the game is a waste of time. Simcity 2013 was a poorly delivered product and any sort of improvement is like adding tricked out rims to a crappy car. Why bother? They have the talent to totally engineer a game themselves and there's certainly the artistic talent to create buildings.

I'm surprised the hardcore crowd hasn't started a crowd source funding campaign to just do it themselves and make the hardcore game so many want.

I'll stick to Sim City 3000 and 4. The permanent internet connection required to play SC5 is really annoying. Also the fact that I can't save on my computer, the saves are stored on their server.

Just look at the kind of games being produced for Android/IPad. They are almost like Abandonia games with better graphics.
There's a huge market for future versions for Sim City 2/3/4 using the technology of today for the great ideas of less than a couple of decades ago.
Imagine a Sim Tower where you could design each floor plan as if it where a SC4 city, where the entire building works as a region? That's a home run. Anybody interested?
Sim Hotel
Sim Scraper
Sim Arcology
Sim Cruise ship (one where you can design each deck, and asign rooms as residential lots, restaurants and casinos as commercial, basic infra as industrial and civics.

Me too, honestly. If I had the skills, I would start a project like this. Unfortunately, I don't.

Nobody could single-handedly build such a complex simulator.
Maxis, or EA Games, could, Challenge Everything, and sell a user friendly platform where we could build our SC4 Sagas (they can call it "regions" or Sim Nation), Arcologies, and Cruise ships.
Back in the 90s I thought a lot was needed to create great games like SIm Tower or Airlines, now similar games are oh so readily available for phones and pads....
It's beginning to cycle, like they do in the film industry releasing Red Dawn every 30 years. I believe the original was called Ants!

If such a campaign ever occurs I will gladly pitch in.

It's like everything went to shit after Simcity 4. WTF MAXIS?! why did you suddenly get retarded when it comes to making a good quality game?

EA bought them just before SimCity 4, and shortly after it, most of their team leaders quit.

Maxis is Maxis in name only now. I'm kind of surprised the name even still exists.

That's honestly really depressing, Maxis was my favorite game developer of all time. It's insane how much creativity they had, they really knew how to make a game that would suck you in for YEARS. R.I.P.

I almost bought this game until I realized you could only play online.

I don't have the time to keep up with my "competitors", some of whom would no doubt be playing for hours each day, and I mostly wanted something to do on long flights.

I am not going to buy it after all. I've had it up to here with forced online games. Fuck 'em. Now, if I can get my hands on a copy of simcity 4 for mac (have it on PC, but alas, not convertible)

I opened SC4 the other day. I haven't played it much at all since 2004. I couldn't believe how much more rich the gameplay experience was. So much more depth and craft in the design.

The traffic noise, city ambiance and soundtrack are way more rich than that obnoxious looping song in SC5. It seems like every building in SC4 was carefully considered in design whereas the art in SC5 looks rushed, cheap and cartoonish.

I also built out a section that was approximately 4 times the size of the land offered in SC5. When I zoomed out, I had only used one small section of the map!

One thing that I've figured out in SC4 that will make it more enjoyable is plopping commercial and residential buildings where I want. Back in 2004, they would just abandon, but I figured out how to prevent that from happening. I'm constructing a city that feels like NYC right now.

THIS! this is my BIGGEST complaint about all the new city building games, THERE IS NO REALISM! The buildings look like cartoon crap! I never really got why everyone seems to freak out over the always-online play but nobody else seems to be complaining about the detail of the actual cities themselves. It's what I've been screaming about all along, nobody seems to give a shit about the standard that was set by Simcity 4. Every little detail in that game had thought put into it by the developers.

Simcity 4 is the perfect city building game, I've never in my life been so drawn, so utterly sucked into a game in my entire life, so many countless hours of entertainment that left me wanting more. No matter what, I would always come up with new ideas, new ways to create cities and infrastructure. There's none of that in the new city building games.

Honestly can somebody just make Simcity 4 three dimensional and we'll never have to deal with all these other half-assed imitation games.
