Long time lurker, but very light poster. I agree with you Urban. Bring Randolph back to its marquee days.

As for the Blandon, it really blows my mind how much the alderman make. There are maybe a handful that know what it means to live in an urban center. Nonetheless, I found a spreadsheet with their salaries from 2012. In total, they are costing the city roughly 6.5 million a year. Let's not add in the construction jobs and property taxes that could be sprouting up throughout the city, but are constantly being cut due to alderman pandering. Ass backwards! They are not urban planners and should not have any say in regards to density and urban progress.

Agreed, one, agreed all.

Hey - something I've been meaning to post somewhere - and I suppose here is as good a place as any, as it is on Block 37 (but nothing to do with resi tower, or shopping center, or CIM Group): Does anybody know what they're doing at the 22 W Washington (Morningstar, CBS) office building - scaffolding up - not around the entire building, but just the section that has the ultimate 1/3-ass CBS video display........could it be that they're actually finally doing something with it, eg finishing it? Just wild speculation on my part - but that is such an embarrassment, and seeing the scaffolding just under that portion at least got one eyebrow raised and maybe a hint of optimism.........anybody know anything??

Brendan says no fancy movie theater unless the developer builds three more dog parks with high parking ratios.

Perhaps we should take the Block 37 retail discussion to the "General Developments" thread and focus this thread mainly on the highrise apartment tower?

Just a thought

I love the lights in that old pic. Too bad so many people in Chicago are anti-sign.

The aldermen don't make outrageous salaries. It is a full-time job, and Chicago is more populous than many countries. An argument can certainly be made that there are too many of them, but the approximately $125k they each earn really isn't anywhere close to exorbitant for a professional-class job.

As far as "aldermanic privilege" goes, though, I fully agree that it should be curtailed and is obviously a source of both small and large corruption. If it was ever beneficial to the city or citizens at large, it no longer is.

Actually, I had a somewhat different thought on this.

Can we potentially change this back to the all-inclusive Block 37 thread - where the apartment tower and retail will both be on the table? We had one, but it was (prematurely imo) closed because things on the retail front for the first two years of CIM Group's ownership moved at such a glacial pace.....however now, with some major movement finally - at least news of important tenant deals being done (hopefully with no aldermanic meddling! )......I think it might make sense to have a thread for the whole block??

Sorry if I can't contain my excitement, but this block is going to be nothing short of orgasmic in about 2 years. A fitting cap to State St's decade long come back (which is still not over). There will be so much activity at this site in a very short time frame. Damn!

Although the design isn't the best, it will have a great effect on the loop. how many other large residential towers are Under Construction in the loop? how many other large residential towers are there in the loop period?

No kidding! I remember watching the start of the BCBC expansion, and that was a much longer, more involved process certainly before you had any structural steel going up (granted there is a big difference between starting maybe 75' or whatever up vs. maybe 425' or so feet up!).....
